Clear doubling on IGWT on this shield nickel. Is this a ddo or Longacre doubling?Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.Never seen this before on a shield nick. Confused :?Also has some doubling on the reverse.

I don't think it's a doubled die but it's hard to see in the pics.

Be sure to look close at the date, there are about 6 hard to spot overdates for that year and some have what looks like a filled 3 (or blobs in the 3). Look for any signs of a 2 between the 8-3 or anything below any digits.

Ken, I see something on the "U" in trust, but it isn't clearr enough for me to say for sure. The reverse could be MD, judging from the star, and the lettering.

You actually have a case of Longacre doubling there. It's not a doubled die.

I don't see anything doubled on the date.

Of all U.S. coins, the shield nickels are the most common to have longacre doubling. Almost all the nickels I have seen to date have it to some degree. It's less normal to find one that does NOT have the Longacre doubling.
