I have heard to different ways of eliminating the fog that some proof cents get over time. What has worked the best for you? I have heard of goo-gone and other products...

Gabe, I have tried with some success using goo-gone. It is important to NOT use swabs, or anything else on them as it will easilly scratch the mirrored fields. I use my fingertips (after making sure they are clean of course) and gently rubbed the coin between them. I then blot the coin dry with a soft cloth. I have had some success this way, and have failed on a few others. If you have any proofs that you don't care too much about, I would practice this techinque on them first.

Actually a liberal amount of Goo-gone under the sink with warm water, then a wash with mild dish detergent, then a blot dry on a paper towel works absolutely perfectly and I have never had any failures.

I would never leave a cleaning agent on a proof coin - always wash and rinse cleaning stuff off the coins.

That too sounds like a great way Chuck, but I would sure hate to crawl "under the sink" to clean a foggy proof Laughing Laughing Laughing
Actually, I tried that today, and it came out perfectly. I also failed to mention in my post that it (the goo-gone) needed to be washed off. Thanks for catching that!
