THE CHERRYPICKERS' GUIDE TO RARE DIE VARIETIES

third edition, 1994. Bowers and Merena Galleries, box 1224, wolfeboro, NH 03894.
305 pages, suggested retail price $24.95 available in softbound, hardbound and sprialbound

by Bill Fivaz, NLG and J.T. Stanton, NLG
coppercoins.com rating :

The book has a good premis, but we are at a loss to figure out how they select the coins that are included in the book. There are many well known varieties that are not included in the book at all and others that are obscure, but are said to be widely desired? You be the judge, an interesting reference but hardly all encompasing. The error coin field of study is growing rapidly and we are sure that better books will emerge.

MAJOR VARIETY AND ODDITY GUIDE OF UNITED STATES COINS

sixth edition, 1974. Anco, Florence, Alabama. There are newer editions but this one has the best photos.
128 pages, est. price less than $10.00

by Frank G. Spadone
coppercoins.com rating : maybe too much?

This book is almost a total waste of energy except to use as the perfect example of what not to buy. The attributions are almost all wrong, but it is still good for a nice laugh when things get you down.

THE ERROR COIN ENCYCLOPEDIA

second edition, 1994.
426 pages, suggested retail $24.95

by Arnold Margolis, NLG
coppercoins.com rating :

A complete reference guide to minting errors and just how they occur. The book explains in great detail the minting process to help understand errors. Again this is an emerging field of collection and many additional books will follow in time. But we do belive that this book is an important part of any numismatic library.
