1955-S new RPM?

Started by Rick Guined · RGuined

I believe I may have found a new RPM. I have searched Copper Coins, Wexler, and Variety Vista and cannot find a match.

I think that's 1MM-015. Hard to determine die markers from the pics, but MM position, splitting on serifs, curved small die scratches on the left side of the upper curve of the mintmark, and die scratch between the 1 and Lincoln's lapel look about right for that one. Can you post clearer pics of the whole coin for better checking of die markers?

I added a pic of 1MM-015 for reference.

Brantley,

Thanks for the response, I originally thought 1MM-015 also. what steered me away from it is It doesn't have any of the markers for 1MM-015. I have added the Obverses and Reverse plus another image of the date and MM. I will add a couple other post to show markers I found.

More images, additionally I found 6 of these in a BU Roll.

I see what you mean. Those die markers don't make sense for 1MM-015 and seeing your recent photos, the RPM itself is different in its rotation.

Rick, Sorry I can't help with Identifying the variety but was impressed with the quality of the pics, especially with such a close zoom. Do you mind sharing what you used to take the pics?

Fred,

I used a Amscope stereo microscope for the closeup work and a digital scope for the obverse and reverse of the coin.
Rick, So I'm assuming the AmScope has a digital camera? I have an older generic stereo microscope that looks very much like this AmScope except its a trinocular scope with a much heavier vertical post. At one time I had a digital camera for it but the pictures were very bad. I'd be interested in one providing the quality of photos your getting. Do you mind sharing what type?

They sell adapters that connect to a dslr camera and it slides right into the eye lens hole. Even better on a trinocular because it can go into the 3rd spot. Dont forget one of the main issues people have is diffusing the light to remove glare. Like the pics above, diffusing the light will make the pics 10x better and clearer. Can see the CC pic posted is diffused lighting

Fred,

This is the scope I have, link below. Also the link for the 20MP camera i use with it. I also use a LED light ring for lighting. As Jason says lighting is the most difficult thing to master.

@Rick - may I see the camera your using? The 20mp digital you spoke of. I couldn't get those links to work nor did the copy n paste work either. Thank you in advance!
YES, lighting...I can NOT get for the life of me!
And, honestly I feel I'm using "all" the wrong equipment and tools as a whole!
I've researched until I'm blue in the face (10 X over) but so much conflicting information! Could only find 1-3 actual videos that "show" what they use but could only find 1 video that showed what they use AND how they use it!
I'm very very much a visual (or hands on) type of learner (ADD, ugh).
Kathy,

The camera goes in the scope.

Scope is an AmScope SW-2 Series Super Widefield Trinocular Stereo Microscope 20X-30X-40X-60X Magnification on Track Stand with Top & Bottom Light.

Camera is an AmScope MU2003 20.0MP USB 3.0 Color CMOS C-Mount Microscope Camera.

I was just reading an article 2 days ago about a set up very very similar to yours.
