Coop
Thats simular to my 97'.. Nice find.!
BJ, the 2008 looks simular to 2008P-1DEO-010 200° listed on your site .. However, the die markers are not matching, there are no chips or cracks on obv or Rev on my coin & I can not see any trails from the date, or atleast not with my 16x loop.. Maybe a new die or earlier die state?? If you would like to take a look yourself, that will be fine.. I believe you could get a better photo.! I noticed this evening the trails show better from a straight above view with the right light..
BTW, Great site.! I dont believe you had it up & running last time I sent you a coin, Congrats..

BJ, thanks for your explanation. I guess the only other option we might have for WS, on another coin is the nickel., (as long as they use the same devices on it. While I can't look directly at the trails/WS, I can use something we learned in the Navy, "Night-vision". It helps me with my situation. It takes a bit more time, but it does work.
Speaking of trails; how about that 1869 coin Kurt posted? That is cool!
Later: I just noticed the name of this section in the forum! I like the name! Way to go, Chuck!

Okay, wavy steps is the result of trails going through the stairs. Wavy steps is a distortion similar to the distortion seen on some of the letters when a trail passes through or originates on that design element.
So, we can say this; wavy steps are only found on the Lincoln cent (so far). Wavy steps are a result of trails.
This is best explained by looking at the stylobate when it has trail lines; when the trail line passes through the horizontal line that forms the levels of the stylobate, it distorts that horizontal line in the direction of which the trail is traveling. This is the same thing that is happening in the steps. What you are seeing is the distortion and in some cases the actual trail line in the stairs.

BJ, Is that trails, or wavysteps? I have been calling the ones I find, like those you posted, WS. What is the difference? Thanks,

Speaking of trail, I did this one last night for Jean L. It is fairly uncommon since it is on a proof 2000 Lincoln cent.
