One thing to remember about trail dies is that you are going to see what appear to be abrasion lines that are in the same direction as the trail lines. As the die moves across the hub face, the high points are not the only place on the hub that make contact. There maybe flat portion to flat portion that makes contact as well that will leave these abrasion marks.

My 2-cents worth: This IS a trails die. If you look at the corners of the letters, or any other area where they might be found, they always begin from a POINTED spot, IE a corner. That is the give-away. Turning, (rotating) the coin, and changing the angle, at the same time helps the trails stand out.
At least that is the way I search for them. I use a base, with an angle of 10-15 degrees, and a peg in the center, perpendicular to the surface od the angle, and a round holder that can be rotated while changing the reference of the angle, makes the trails appear like magic. Works for me.

To me this one looks like die polishing/scratches. The all seem to flow at E-W pattern from the images. An image father back might be more helpful. It could be a trails die with polishing lines. So an image further back may reveal something more convincing to me.

Odd how the human mind works Bob. I've collected Morgan dollars for over 50 years and don't have a single one with toning. I look at toned coins and my mind says UGH. Stained.

Last one for this bag of 5000. Almost missed it, The toning makes it very hard for me to see the trails.




This coin has the dot under the date on the obverse although no die crack on reverse next to the U.
