Probably strike double but looking for another opinion. This only shows on the last 9 of the date.
Thanks Steven

Nope...looks like a doubled die to me. Never seen that one, although I am aware of at least two different dies that show on the 96 of the date and look similar to that one.

VERY nice find. I'd like to be able to add that one to the site.

Chuck

Thanks Chuck,
I'm gathering a few others and will send this one when I get them together. First I'll have to get it back out of the roll. I didn't have much faith in it so I didn't put it aside. Smile Smile

Check the roll for extras and there may be more than one in there. Always an interest in doubled dies to swap for.

It looks similar to 69-p ddo2 but on the other 9 and opposite direction.

When I found that plain variety I tossed it in my junk pile as a strike double but as I searched the roll I did find another with the same markers and I found none with the markers that did not have the same doubling. Then I looked at coneca and saw their description and thought it matched. I gave one to Bob and it is the one on the site 1DO-001.

I sent the other to Anacs and they slabbed it as ddo die 2.

Sort of scary that in a year known for strike doubles there can be real ddos that look similar to strike doubles.

The amazing thing was in that same roll I also found one single 69-p ddo die 1 which is an easy to see variety on the entire obverse! I have yet to see one on ebay or anyplace else but it is listed in some books. I sent it to Anacs and it came back ddo die-1 so miracles do happen and sometimes 2 miracles in one cheap roll. Very Happy It's stuff like this that makes me keep searching even when I have a fruitless time at it.

I bought the roll in a tube and looked to be from different rolls, bags or circulation. Mostly EF/AU. Nothing else in the roll. I was a bit disappointed buyin it as advertised AU/BU roll but I took the chance of it not being searched well. One good one I guess better than nothing.
I've put it in a flip and marked it to send.
