No gloves.
When searching circulated coins I do nothing at all special. After all, they've been handled many times before without precaution.
When looking through red BU cents I usually wash my hands well with an antibacterial soap which causes them to dry out to the point that I am not placing anything on the coins from my hands.

I agree with Chuck's rationale. However, when handling proof coins, some extra precautions might be in order for some people.

To add, I usually find it a detrement to use gloves. I tend to fumble the coins much more easily. My precaution is to take care and pay attention, and do it with clean hands.
