What a fine looking coin! Is that reverse die always paired with that obverse die? Is the junk in the "9" of the date always there on that variety?

Robert - If your question is regarding the ball of the 9 attached to the upper part of the 9, yes...it's always there because it's on all the 20th century Indian Head cents...it may be on all that have a 9, but I'm not sure about that.

I happen to have the Attribution Guide for 1900-1909 cents with me here in Tulsa and there are a few die varieties that show separation from the ball of the 9 to the upper loop, in 1900 and 1903, for example, but not many. RS also has a photo of an 1894 to show the repunched date and the 9 is clearly connected.
