As the image will disappear soon and this subject will remain, I'm adding the image from the auction. That way others will be able to view it later.

In addition to sending the seller this email, I did send a short note to the high bidders also.
I may be out of place by doing this, and it's probably like pissing in the wind, but these irk me to no end. Hopefully, I can protect at least one unsuspecting bidder out of throwing away 50 plus bucks. |
This is a great thing to do Bob,
This is probably what is causing some foks to go with Private Id's, a shame really. I like to use the id's to see what was bought to match with their comment but now you can't. I avoid those sellers.

I have noticed that trend also Mike. I, like you, would tend to stay away from sellers like that. However, there are cases where a private auction is necessary.
I also stay away from folks who have their feedbacks blocked. Shouldn't be a problem if the seller or bidders have nothing to hide...right?

I haven't noticed any blocked feedbacks. True with the private if it's one of those high dollar auctions I have seen, but I like to see what auction they are talking about when you see something like "Gold found or 1909s vdb".

There is a time and place for "private ID's" to be used. Example; a certified, expensive coin is placed for auction (over $5000.00). In this case it would be wise to make the bidding list private. There are to many people who make it there "hobby" to obtain items illegally and information provided on a bidder list can help them in their quest.
Paranoia? - You bet. With all the scams, cons, id thefts, etc. one can never be to carefull.
One more thing - Happy Fathers Day to all of the fathers out there.

The funny thing is that same seller that made stuff was selling one thing last week that he made... In his add he said he bought it but a "local dealer" said it might be fake. Funny that the guy that made stuff pretended he bought it!! And he had to ask a "local dealer". Wonder if he told the dealer he found it in the vice in his garage between a board and homemade die
Here's an example! The same guy claimed he bought this but was told it was altered. It was made the same way as he makes the other fake but he said he had to ask a dealer. I would call that clear evidence of fraud. In my opinion he should be reported to ebay as fraud.

BJ, I have a 1969-S cent, that came from ebay! Yep, I "bought" one! Problem it "looks" like a MD type, until I got my scope, and then the truth came out. Not MD, NOT hub doubling, yes it is "double-struck", in fact it took several strokes to make the "doubling. Some one has some very SMALL punches, and a pretty sharp eye!. I'll post an image, so you will see. It cost $10,00. but I was just getting started in "collecting" again after 40 years "lay-off" .
I read about the "white penny, and yes, I have that one, TOO! This one was not coated in Mercury, but was chromed. I was hoping it might be aluminium!
When I took the photo, it came out "brown", on screen. WHY is this? It is as white as any dime!
As the old "Carney" said: There is a sucker born every minute, and two out to get him"!
BTW, anybody ready for some "pickings", (left-overs), from dinner???
Dick
