Here are many overdate varieties of the 1880-CC. There are three significant ones. The first is the VAM 4. It is the 80 over 79. It is in a PCGS MS62 holder

This is the VAM 5. It is the 8 over High 7. It is in a GSA holder. Looks like MS62-63.

This is the VAM 6. It is the 8 over Low 7. It is also in a GSA holder, approximately MS62-63.

As you can see the QX3 is better with silver than copper!

Very nice overdate collection there! Good and obvious!

I saw an overdate shield nickel today that the guy didn't know he had. Well, he knew he had the nickel, but I had to point out the overdate to him. It was an 1883 shield with the two 8s doubled far to the south. Very nice!

Those overdates are very exciting when discovered. Very scarce on shield nickels.

Its a shame that there is no magnification between 10x and 60x on my scope to photograph the entire date. Crying or Very sad

The "E" in The 1884 E reverse I mentioned in another section is a partial clash and probably not very photogenic, however I did notice a dash under the second 8 in the date that indicates an overdate. I will photograph the date and try to photograph the E clash this weekend.

Funny you should mention shield nickels. I took the only one I had out of the lock box and found that it was a pretty nice repunched date. Never noticed it before...probabaly because I have pretty much concentrated on Lincoln cents. Here is the pics of the RPD.

Nice RPD, Bob. In the Oct 6 Coin World, page 40 in the Varieties Notebook column, there is a photo of an 1866 shield nickel with a strong repunched date. Quite cool. Razz

See what you guys made me do?? Now I had to do research on my shield nickel and found info about the various reverse hubs. Mine is a IIA. In addition, I also found a repunced date on a 1907 Indian head cent I have. It's a nice uncirculated example, and also had a struck through thread going through the date.
Now, it seems, I will have to go through all my other non-Lincoln coins to see what I have missed all these years. Funny how things keep flowing when you deal with coins. Of course, I have a prioity with Mr. Chuck and coppercoins.com, but at least this'll be something to look at when things get a little slow.
