I had a heck of a time photographing my 1955 DDO, but here is a photo at 60x of the left side of the T in CENT. There appears to be two die lines in the brown patina.

Yup, that's where the lines are. I can see them in the image, the right one better than the left - but they do come to a narrow V about two thirds down on your photo and they continue even lower as an X shape. Good Job!

Thanks Chuck. The die lines apparently continue above the T and form a loop near the E in ONE. I will try to find it and get a pic here. Maybe I can find the "X" also

Cool

Garry,
Something to keep in mind concerning the "X" die scratch on the 55 DDO. It is actually a very long X shaped scratch protruding south of the left side of the T. If you are trying to find a short one, you won't find it there. The scratch practically runs the length of the T....OK? Don't be discouraged if you can't find it. There are a few out there that just plain don't show it due to wear or die state.

Could one of you re-post that pic with arrows showing what to look for?

I figured out how to put some crude arrows in there. One of the two lines is visible and I marked it at 3 places.

I think I see the line. It's parallel to the vertical part of the "T", right?

Where is the other line (roughly)?

Thanks, Garry! That information is worth at least $500 to someone buying a 55 DD.

Robert,

if you look at the line between the bottom and middle arrows, you will see a second line just to the left of the line I point out. , just a milimeter away. If you look at the diagrams when they are published, the lines intersect somewhere below my photo. Very Happy Also, the lines form a loop above the cross bar of the T.

The patina on my coin is light and the lines are still very difficult to see, I cannot see them with my 14x loupe. So I dont know how the lines would come out on a fully red or fully brown coin. There were only about 25,000 estimated coined so I would expect the die state would be consistent.

I see it. The lines are parallel by your arrows but they intersect further down.

Cool!

Thanks! Very Happy

Anytime, my friend, all these pics are really cool. I love it.

I believe that I cannot take a decent photo of the obverse because the coin is not centered vertically in the NGC holder. The reverse is closer to the clear cover than the obverse, so the microscope I use cant focus on the obverse real well. Good for the secondary diagnostics on the reverse, bad for the real thing on the obverse! Oh well! Rolling Eyes
