It sure bothers me when PCGS, NGC and ANACS use the wrong terms to describe doubled dies, RPMs and other mint mark varieties. Here is a perfect example...

It's not an "ERROR" it's a variety. 
IMHO I think I know why it was done that way, it was submitted under their mint error special. You can tell by the E in their number. They put that "ERROR" notation on all of the ones submitted that way. They had some special for 5 coins submitted for their "MINT ERROR SPECIAL" and it was $18 each. If you submit it the other way it was $15 for grading plus $15 for attribution so someone saved $12 on it. If they submitted it the other way (grading and attribution) it wouldn't say "ERROR" but cost $12 more.
It highlights a problem with graders, they're hard to deal with. They don't publish a clear description of what they realy offer, PCGS leaves that to the club members or dealers to figure out that don't have a clue themself.
PCGS also makes up their own terminology. A good example is they use the word "TYPE", for example a 71-s proof die 1 to PCGS is what they call "TYPE 2" but the 71-s proof die 2 is what they call "TYPE 1".

Thanks, Gabe. I didn' think of that one! It does confirm my decision to avoid the TPG's, at all cost! I have heard somw wild stories about the "grading", and "slabbing", scenario. None of it good!. I'll stick with the known, (and respected), attributors, amongst us! If I were "filthy rich", and had little or no scruples, I could have a collection of nothing but MS70's, and PR70-UDC, but, I'm not, and I sleep well at night! In a word, (or two), one gets what one PAYS for!

Actually I believe the photo was originally posted because of the very sloppy notation of the type of variety, not just the fact that it's not an error. "Repunched MM" is not and has never been a correct notation for "repunched mintmark" or "RPM". It just looks amateurish and stupid.
You would think a company that clears a billion plus a year could afford someone to educate them as to how to handle die varieties.
