I heard a funny story on the radio. The Wisconsin quarter has not been approved yet so the state decided to let residents vote for the design on the internet.
The winning design is a picture of a cow's head and a wheel of cheese. A design of a deer in a field came in second, I think. So some radio personalities were discussing other possibilities. Like a bear rummaging thru garbage, a deer shot down in the field, a raccoon tearing up a cabin... It was pretty funny.

Unfortunately yet another mundane politically driven design won a state contest. Yet another one I will simply pass by in my change. A shame - this program could have been a true exploration in art. It ended up being just a bunch of coins.

I am afraid that there is not much creativity out there. A good example is Illinois. Here Abraham Lincoln is on both sides of the cent, has been on various forms of currency, still on the 5 dollar bill and has been on a commemorative half dollar and Illinois has to put him on the quarter. Its unbelievable. Lincoln is still so much a part of the tourist industry in Springfield, IL, that Springfield would have to close down if they didnt use him.
Any one else have comments about the quarters?
