Today, I went to the bank to cash in some change.
I had some IKE dollars. Road Worn Ike's. Nasty IKE's. But very readable, and ID-able, junk coins.
The teller didnt know what they were and called over another teller who didnt know If they were US coins. They called over the shift manager who had to CALL the BANK MANAGER at home to verify they could take the coins.
THEN I had to leave my name address and phone and account # incase they came back to them as NOT US coins.
WHAT's UP with that?

How stupid is that? I guess bank tellers and managers need to go to bank college to be able to identify their own countries coinage. Pretty sad state we're in when things like this happen.

Cathy, are you sure they could speak english? How big a bank is that? Here in CA, everyone speaks Spanish, so no problem! BTW, did you get the FWD from my kid sister to me?

I was at a BoA and got some half dollar rolls and even found a few 65-66 silver clads and two 64 silver ones, pretty nice out of only 2 rolls they had
Then I decided to spend the others from the 80s.
I went to Taco Bell for lunch handed the lady one of them and she looked like it was a coin from outer space... asked the manager for help... he looks closely at it and tells her it's a new dollar coin. I thought can't they read "HALF DOLLAR" on the thing!!!! They even spoke english so no excuse except they were goofballs
Good thing they don't work at the bank.

ED, you are lucky, to get rolls of half dollars. The B of A, here seldom gets any halves, and very few dollars! Must be going to the tribes!

Catrhy, I hope you weren't offended. My kid sister has a weird sense of humor, but considering that she had a "Mastectomy", and is, so far, a survivor, she has a good sense of humor. Maybe it helps. I hope so!

Bob, I'm beginning to thonk that we ALL may have to learn all about out coinage, the way they are thinking about all those extra "dollars that they plan on minting! As if we didn't have enough, already, and the people just don't want the darn things around!

I agree Dick. The problem with this whole picture is that these folks worked in a damn bank! I could understand some young kid scrutinizing a coin that was not produced after the 70's...but bank tellers and bank managers? At least with the newer coinage they're talking about minting, ther should be enough info going around so that most folks will know what they have. Poor Ike would turn over in his grave if he heard about this fiasco.

Cathy, Bob, I havre to tell you about my situation. I go to B of A, to buy coins, because MY bank doesn't handle them, other than rolls of cents. And they act all put out to have to handle them! There is no merchants window, or room. I go to the B of A, and the manager tells me if there are any rolls of half dollars, or large dollars. She is Black The Vault tellers are hispanic, altho not all of them speak Spanish. They are very receptive to collectors. I see them, (collectors), go out with packs of bills, boxes of coins, and rolls, in hand. NICE! They save the empty boxes for me, (and I imagine several other collectors. No fuss, when I return an opened box of cents, or quarters. They check the box to see if there are any rolls missing. I usually hand them a bill to cover the missing rolls. And all this time, an ongoing chatter, (in Spanish), while others are waiting for their turn. I do get a few surprised looks, now, and then! Not only from the americans, but from some of those Hispanics, who do not know me. It usually makes my day!
