HAS ANYONE PURCHASED A UNSEARCHED BAG OF 5000 WHEAT CENTS BEFORE? AND IF SO WAS IT WORTH IT? I'M THINKING ABOUT BUYING ONE JUST TO SEE.

Could be worth it but I doubt there's many truly "unsearched" bags out there. Most have been searched.
You still might find good stuff, some people only look for the most well known varieties or they miss good things.
I've been seeing a lot of supposedly unsearched bank wrapped wheat rolls in new wrappers on ebay, I'm sure they are stuff that was searched and re-rolled.

Depending on how much the coins have been moved around. In a bag the longer it moves/bumps the more damage the coins can cause on each other. But if they are truely from just one bag, you will find the same examples from the same dies over and over. May find examples of 14 different dies and all of them could be normal, or if you find one dies coins that you a variety on you will have rolls of that same coin after you search them. My experience was never good as I found very little in the ones I've searched. Most we a bad color from storage and went back into rolls fopr circulation. The best was to buy a bank sealed bag is for the contents to be OBW rolls inside. If you find nothing in a few rolls, sell the rest off as OBW rolls on ebay. Just my idea.

Every collector should have the "joy" of going through a bag of wheat cents.
The odds are that you will find about half of the coins needed to coplete a set, plus some minor errors and a few rpm's and double dies. I think the coins that Coop is talking about are uncirculated mint bags.
Have Fun!

The circulated bags of wheats that I have purchased I would say have been searched and probably several times but I think mostly for dates, higher grade early dates, and the more obvious varieties. What I believe most have been missing are the not so noticable varieties and that still leaves a lot to be picked.

I have purchased multiple 5000 count bags with mixed results. The first bag I believe was truly unsearched. Many RPMs, some nice DDOs. The subsequent bags did not have anywhere near the same varieties. I have also found the price is getting silly with these bags now selling for well over $200 per bag. In the past year I have given up on buying on Ebay and I now place ads in the local newspaper for $10. That is a hassle also because people usually only have a few rolls and everyone thinks wheat pennies are worth a fortune. They are stunned to find out they are only worth a few cents apiece. The only benefit is they usually have no clue what a variety is so they are usually unsearched. Last week I scorred a 1944 D/S OMM and some great RPMs in a $10 purchase of about 400 wheaties. That was more than what I found in my last 5000 count bag.

Darrell: Great to see your back with us. The coin connection is a good one. Remember to play it cool and share with us your finds. If he knows your are finding valuable stuff from his sources he may jack up his prices. So play it COOL
