Slanted over dates caused by damage

These show up and often people try to sell them as slanted date or repunched date etc. They're caused by damage. It may be from coin counting machines, rolling machines or from ejection when it was struck. They design dies so the coin can come out easily when struck so some years might release better than others and I've heard this as a reason why these come for certain years, often 1941 or 1942. However this coin is also a 1941 and since it also has a scratch in line with the damage I'd conclude it was not ejection and was from a counting or rolling machine. They have no extra value in fact it reduces the value like any other damage.

Looks like a grease filled 1947. Thats my take on them. Filled upper 7 leaving a diagonal bar?

Maybe on some but notice on this one the slanted bar is hinged, attached at the top but not at the bottom. Look where it was and you can see where it originaly was then was sheered off and pushed sideways. In the field there's a scratch the machine made leading to it and away from it (counting or rolling machine scratch). Also notice if it was a 7 where the top would have been filled it is perfectly level with the field.

They get hidden by wear dings and toning and look like they were minted that way.

Gotta side with you, ED. The base of the 1, is still faintly visible, and, the top of the 1 is quite a bit thicker than the 7 would be.
