Probably most bidders on items like that aren't into varieties but they have a book that says 69-s ddo is worth big bucks and think "that must be one" it's their chance to get a bargain so they think they're fighting over a bargain.

I thought you would agree with me, ED. It sure is one for the uniniciated! If I were to put something like that on Ebay, I wouldn't be able to sleep! my conscience would kill me!

I see they are hiding the bidders on this one. I guess that is how they keep others from tipping them off???

Yea... One guy I posted a link to last week was selling several items. Half were not misleading and looked like good items and not private but the other half of his listings that were junk all were private.

The only good reason for private listings is super big items like a few thousand $ and the buyers might not want to be public but on junk items it's to keep them from being warned.

Another funny one for a 69-s last week said "this your only chance for this bargain, if nobody bids I'll send it to PCGS" Laughing

Am I the only one who caught onto the idea that the coin is from 1969 and is advertised as a wheat cent, which we all know ended in 1958?

CD, looks like you might be right. I saw the three photos of the coin, and when I saw the memorial rev, I dumped it, and came cack to "real life". I kept thinking of MY 1969-S! Too soon old, too late smart! Happy New Year CD, may you keep all the resolutions you consider valid!

If they don't know what a wheat Cent is, why are they selling that. I guess par for the course. That just means someone is missing bids on a real coin of value cause someone else to a dump on this auction.

I sent the individual an email about this listing, and rather than being defensive about it, he simply sent a THANK YOU note. Since then, he has dropped the reserve and all of the bids have since been cancelled. He still hasn't changed the title yet, but it is a nice start to the New Year...isn't it??

Chuck - The wheatie part was the first thing that caught my eye. Still, that does not top a full page ad in the local paper that has wheaties from 1909 to 1959 ?????.

Or how about this one. An article from the same paper said that a local coin dealer made a purchase 5 years ago of a 1909 Lincoln cent for $10,000 (yes ten thousand dollars) and since then, his investment has increased ten fold - HMMMMM, like a $1,000,000. Please give me a BREAK.

This is the typical media hype that now plagues this hobby; from CNN down to the local newspapers.
