the mint mark just got corroded and fell off I do believe that is common.

I would almost bet My hat if someone had a coin like but still had the mint mark that fell off it would go for a pretty penny on ebay to some newbie that found it interesting.

wow a 1983 "No D" cent. I bet that 80 years from now, coins will be so boring that a coin like that might be worth what the 1922 version is now! hahaha
