I don't believe it....Looking at the face and neck even the ear looks to be strike doubling to me.
My opinion only though as far as the coin listed goes..

I have not seen that book.

To me that coin looks like a strike double.
Every cent I've seen where you see it on the bust like that on his ear, nose, chin etc... looks shelf doubled is a strike double.

So the book might list one but I do not think the one on ebay is anyones listed ddo.

The seller might be confusing or misrepresenting someone elses listing for 1DO-002 because it has doubling on the bust but it's nothing like the one in that listing.

I got bit by ebay today. I was hoping to get a fairly nice example of a 1909 for my collection at a fair price but NOOOOO. Check the photo and the way the date is written on the 2x2 and the check the photo of the coin in the 2x2 I received and how the date is on it. The coin I received is very harshly cleaned/scrubed and has other damage to it. I sent a message to the seller to say "Whats up with this" but haven't heard back. Mad

The coin he listed is not the same coin he sent you.

Like you said the way he wrote the date is totaly different, the one he listed has a deep original orange color and luster but not the one he sent.

Notice the seller has good feedback and paypal but it did not list the paypal guarantee? I'm guessing it means he's not verified.

I would ask him if he would take it back because it's not the one in his photo and it's cleaned. He probably will if he wants to keep his 100%.

One thing I hate about ebay is the buyer should automaticaly get feedback if you pay with paypal (ebay owns paypal) you did your only duty as the buyer by paying promptly. That way the sellers could not threaten the buyers feedback when they get a bad feedback for pulling stunts like this.

I am hoping this was an honest mistake and that he will make good on it. Not that I have my life savings invested in it but it was very disappointing in the least to open the envelope and see this coin. I didn't even have to put it under the scope or use good lighting. The junk just jumped out at me. On the good side I received a couple #2 books today an am looking through them. So far I have found in these a 1960 1DR-002 a 1944 D/S 1OM-002 a 1963D 1DO-001 and a 1941 1MM-007/1DR-003.

Steven, do you mind a question? I was reading your post, and you lost me with the "#2 books". Are you referring to albums, perchance? Thanks,
Dick

Yes Dick,
I received two 1941-1974 lincoln cent #2 whitman Coin Folders from a different seller that the one I got the 1909 from. Both came in today. Disappointed with one package and very happy with the other. Still didn't level the scales for me though or at least not yet.

I thought that might be the case, from the dates mentioned. Finding as many as you did, is a good sign. There may be others. Some one was a bit more selrective than I was with mine! I just filled holes where I could find a coin with the right criteria! I'm new at that, too!
That 1984 #2 is in the book, and I checked mine to see what was being pointed out. The photo from the ebay photp, and the book don't even sesemble one, annother, at least not to me. The "photo" is too dark to make ANY clear differences. Definitely too dark to note any doubling in the chin and beard. I detect a slight difference that the seller "forgot " to mention: "may not be all that it is represented to be"!

Is it the one mentioned in that add, is it good?

PS, just sent you a message.

I was thinking that the coin on ebay was in fact a MD. Think I will have to give Ken Potter a call or email and see if there is one truely out there.

Frank Baumann discovered a second doubled ear die for 1984 back around 2000. It was in a Coin World write-up by John Wexler around that year. What I see in the auction is machine doubling, not a doubled die.

I am also not aware of 8 different DDOs for 1984 Philly cents. I only known of 4 different ones.
