Darrell,
What are you meaning to show here? I assume that you are saying that the A and M are closer than normal? The cose AMs didn't start til 93. Am I missing something??

When the dies wear, the space gets closer between both the Close AM and Far A M. Some of the close ones touch in later die states.

That Photo reminds me of what the old farmer said about his daughter, she is just a little pregnant! The coin demonstrates the difference. If it touches, it is close, if it don't, it is wide. About a woman being pregnant, either she is, or she ain't.

There have only been a couple of genuine examples found, and I am sure there have been thousands of people looking for them...myself included. While I never expect to find one, the hunt is still the fun part.

Anyone who knows enough to notice the difference would know what they have. Just think about it.

I probably wouldn't be able to tell anyone about it, if I did find one! Little too much shock for me. I don't like surprises. Like finding a wide '93!

My problem is that half way through the roll I realize I'm not looking for wide/close anymore. Rolling Eyes

A tip for finding the oddball reverses while looking through coins under a microscope...

shape a 1X2 piece of ash long enough for a half roll of coins into 1/4" x 1 5/16" with a planer. Then with a 3/4 router bit dig a trench through the center of the stick just deep enough for the thickness of a cent. make two of these.

When placing the coins into the groove to look through them, separate them into three groups, leaving a small space between each...

1993 to date,

1959 to 1992, excluding 1973

1973

When you finish with the obverses, flip the coins over by placing the second stick over the first, then flipping the whole assembly, then removing the first stick used (now on top). You should see all the reverses, lined up to look at.

While looking through them you can notice incorrect reverse types. If you were careful in placing them on the stick in the first place, rotated reverses will also be apparent by the coins that are now out of alignment.
