Rhubarb, I am VERY fluent in that foreign language, for that very reason!
I don't have the faintest idea who DArrell is talking about!

He's the specialist on those errors.

I may not be the expert, or specialist, but I do have a big batch of them! I keep them to, (eventually), make a progressive crack form the first, to the last point possible. Just like a set of progressive off-center strikes. Inhave a nice set of those. One day, I'll post a photo.

That sound's interesting to see. If it's progressive then should it be listed as eds, mds, lds, orvlds. I hope I have my abbreviations right.

It is a die break. It only gets worse with the more coins it makes. But probly left to work a while longer till it breaks the die or they notice it after the next die clash when they have to clean it again. The die crack is the first in the line that happens when the die weakens or clashes. Then a chip will appear anywhere on the die crack and then the chip gets bigger and bigger, till we call it a die break. I thought about this for some time and thought the two portions of the die perhaps rubbed together making the die progress from a crack to a chip then to a break. But thinking a while longer on it, I think the die crack is shallow on the die. With continued pressure the die cracks deeper and deeper till the edges of the crack crumble and widen along with the crack getting deeper and deeper. When the crack gets deep enough and at the right spot, the die will break in half or a portion of the die breaks off from the rim area. Its all down hill from there. The die is retired either before or after the die breaks and starts making cents with the outside cuds where the die breaks off. All a part of getting old for the die.

Rhubarb, you have the right church, but the wrong pew! These are a series of strikes, that were off-center, (obv/rev), and the strike is equally displaced on both sides or faces of the coin. The other type of displacement, is known as MAD, (Mis-Aligned-Die). Only one face is involved in that case, usually it will be the "hammer die", as the Anvil die is essencially "fixed".
Make sense?
Dick
