Powder? One thing that some use to polish/ruin coins is baking soda rubbed on the surface. Put real nice scratches and hair line scratches.
I've heard of some white gloves also leaving powder on the coin when used to advoid fingerprints. Either one is hazardous to the coins health. Fingerprints/scratches hair lines are permanent. You then have a damaged coin.
