Found this today but having trouble identifying the die. THis one shows what appears to be small knobs on the L & I of LIBERTY and strong notching in the rest of the letters. Also has Trails to the south of LIBERTY. The date may be normal but I have looked at it so long I think the 20 in the date is shifting to the N/W a bit???? None of the markers listed on the 1DO-001 or 1DO-015 match and couldn't find any markers to photogragh.
What do you think.

Steven

Steven, I may be wrong, but I only see MD. For the trails, yes, and BJ would be the one to address for more info there

Darrell,
I was thinking of that as a possibility or maybe the 1DO-001. Just can't figure this one on my own. Close to both but no markers to go by.

now consider this if this came from a OBW then there should be markers but if it is circulated then the markers can be worn away.

I think with both examples, the 1DO-001 & 1DO-015 having die cracks as some of the markers at MDS that this may be one of those as EDS. If they were just die scratches then I think they could disipate in LDS. But I'm not too good at figuring those things out yet.

Hmmm

1DO-012 has the same sort of recessing above LIBERTY, it just did not show on the sites pics. Just to be sure you might look for it's markers on yours.

I would think this one is new.
The trails are like markers, wouldn't that rule out all of the listed ones? I doubt they could polish the trails away without leaving any sign of it.

One thing that may enlighten some of you is that the 'Trails" you show are actually a marker since it is made durring the hubbing process. ( I believe Ed mentioned that, and he is right) With that being said, your die is a new one. Don't think that all of the 2006 doubled dies have been found yet. There may be many more out there. The DDO-015 I found only a month or so ago.
Anyway Steven, it seems like a new die to add to the site. COngrats!

Steven, your later photos show the notches, even to me! Yes, they are there. Hope you have a "brand-spanking -new one for your pleasure, and for the rest of us to enjoy with you.

Hi Steven - I can confirm what Bob has said, this is a new die. Both the doubled die and the trails happened during the hubbing process, so every coin struck with that die will have both. Now the big question, do you have another that I can purchase from you? Or if not, may I see this one? It will help to prove a couple of points in the study that I am conducting on wavy step and trail dies. Thanks

Here is an interesting picture I found on the net... I think it further proves a correlation between doubled dies and trails...
