Most of us are familiar with the 1955 Poor Man's Double Die. I don't have a photo of it, but it's just a minor version of the major DDO. However, I do have photos of what many people have tried to pass off as famous double dies, but are just strike doubles. This is one that has been shown here several times and I know a lot of you have them:
But have you seen this second example:
By the way, if your heart don't leap after seeing one of these through a loupe then you're not human.

Nice picture's Murphy. Man I would probably jump out of my chair if I saw something like that.

Not sure, Murphy. Let me check. I have almost two rolls of them. I'll get back to you. Re the 1969_s I have one like that, and one with the "liberty" all messed up. I'll post it, later. (when I find it)!

The "poor mans" are not DDOs at all in any way. The 1DO-002 is a minor version of a 55 DDO. The "poor mans" are strike doubled or die condition related. Maybe the best thing we can do is not call them DDOs.
I see so many on ebay, they say "partial DDO" or "this is an earlier state that became the big DDO"... Anytime I see the word DDO used for one I suspect it's a seller hoping a new collector will see the price list for a real 55 DDO and pay him too much for their strike doubled coins.

Actually all of the 1955 "poor man's double" coins are die erosion - just VLDS coins. They also frequently happen in other years, like 1946, 1949, 1953 and 1954.

That one looks like one of my "cooked" coins! I have a better looking "PMDDO" than that. Yes there are other dates that show the same die erosion. If I am not mistaken, they have also been referred to as "flat-field doubling. Am I right, Chuck, or is that applied to another type of "die state"?
