It was 15 degrees below zero this morning and I had to change a headlight, I just about got frostbite, I was only out there for about ten minutes, had to take my gloves off. When I went back inside my fingers ached. Boy am I stupid for getting pulled over for having a headlight out. Maybe I should have waited for a warmer day, But when will that be?

Steve... Looks like you guys won't warm up for about a week or so. Brrrrr....I am getting chills just thinking about it. Take care of yourself up there, and I promise I won't bitch about the 40+ degree daytime temps here in Florida for a day or two.

We have 3 cars and none of them started this morning. I gave the mail man a thermos of hot coffee and about 1 hour later he was back for a refill, he was glad to have to wait for it!! Poor guy. Its like 40 below out side 65 below with the wind chill.... so much for it being a mild winter.

We just got above freezing for the third day in a month today - and it was 62. That's 15 degrees warmer than any other day this year so far...but...expecting cold and snow by Wednesday. Oh well...

Went to Key West, Florida from New London Conn. in 1967. From Key West it was over to Hawaii until 1996 and now, back in Florida.
Hurricanes, tornadoes, I'll take them just to stay out of that cold, cold weather.
Yesterday's high 74 degrees. As the song goes "That's the way, that's the way I like it".

You know wavysteps, Im kinda starting to dislike this warm weather in Florida. Ive always lived in the tropics and sub-tropics, and would like to see some snow once in a while a year.
Cold weather in South Florida only comes a couple of times a year (temperatures in the 30's and 40's) that it is really a luxury for me and other people down here. Just wish it would snow a couple of times over here...

Hi Gabe - A little story. When I was young, I went to the seminary, a place up in northeast Penn. We had a couple of kids that came up from Puerto Rico that were also in attendance at that school. Well anyway, came Thanksgiving eve and it started to snow, the first time these kids from Puerto Rico ever saw real snow. The Brother who was teachiing us, let them go outside to experience the feel of snow and watch as the flakes landed on them and the ground.
All through the night it snowed and the next morning we woke to a foot of snow. Still the kids from Puerto Rico were excited and eagerly played in the new fallen snow, however, the cold soon forced them inside for they were just not used to it like us northerners.
People who live near the Great Lakes are accoustomed to what they call "lake effect snow" and for some reason , it was a particulaly bad year for that effect. In the next week, we had snow accumalations of up to three feet in spots and the seminary, with all its man /boy power used it well as we found ourselves shoveling snow not only from the sidewalks, but also the roads in and around the seminary; the kids from Puerto Rico were of course included in this "little" chore.
We finally put the snow shovels away a week before Easter. The kids from Puerto Rico; one quit the seminary, just could not take the cold and the other devoloped a fond hatered for the white stuff, but stayed.
I also decided that this was not the life for me, but that was later on and had nothing to do with the weather. I never made it through another full winter up there, that one was enough for me.
I guess there is a moral to the story, "never wish for something until you know the full consequences", I just know that Jeanie and I would never make it back in the cold, cold north again.

You know its funny but on the first snow of the year I stare out at it with a child like excitement and awe. Its always beautiful when it covers the trees. I don't even mind the temperatures in the twenties, you kinda get used to it. But these days below zero really do get uncomfortable. Especially when sitting for four hours to get a good number at an estate sale.

Snow is great for about 5 minutes....
Some one looks out the window and says"Hey ya'll it's snowing!"
Everyone runs to the window and looks ... then runs out side. Catches a few flakes on their tongues. The children run around until mom says: "Come in side and get out of thoughs wet clothes... you don't even have socks on!!"
She snaps a single picutre just before the "frowns and Aww Mom" show up.
That's it it's no longer fun...
Someone has to take a day off work because the kids have a snow day from school. Someone has to shovel. Someone has to get a bunch of stuff out of the yard least it be lost to the white blanket. Someone has to move the cars. Someone has to get up early incase the cars don't start or the roads are really bad.
Mom always made apple pie with chedder cheese on the crust when it snowed... Now I do... Tradition, ya know.
When last it snowed (Saturday) my youngest went to the window and started crying, she's 12 .. I asked her why. She wanted to move from Mn she said. Why I asked concerned about all the crying so suddenly.
Because you always make us eat pie when it snows.......

I have always loved it when it snows! Of course it isn't so nice when the sun comes out, the clouds go away, and you think about the night forthcoming. It is going to be COLD! THat is the part I never liked. Snow wasn't any problem for me, until I started school, in 1930. I had to put cardboard "in-soles", inside to cover the holes in the bottom of my shoes! It doesn't last long, when it gets wet!
Cathy, I got your package, today I was surprised at what came out of it!. So many nice little wheaties! That other stuff was nice, too. Many thanks, and you can be sure that any silver certs,., will be set aside for you!
Keep warm, and don't be too mean to the youngsters! Put a little ice cream on top!

Why Dick I just realised your in your 80's!!
What was life like before the wheel?
I am kidding!!! My mom use to put cardboard in our shoes too. It's what her mom did.
I wonder if Grandma made apple pie when it snowed?
Thoughs colored Buffalo nickels and quarters were just for fun.
