This is a 1917 P with what look's like it is rotated ccw. I know the picture isn't clear but you can see the line's in the 9 and 7. The lines also exist on the 1's.

Here is a different view.

That's the photo that's rotated Laughing Just kidding David I couldn't resist.
Looks like some shift in the 9 as machine doubling, hard to say. Anything on the rest of the coin?

I knew you were kidding. There is minor doubling on the overser where there isn't any crud. I don't think it's as obvious as the coin on this site.

The most interesting mark I find on the rotated image is the mark at the lower corner towards the date. It looks like a split there. In the first image, the shine drowns the split. So I would use the image direction that shows what you want, and rotate it to the correct position. Most don't like the rotated image on the side, but sometimes taking an image in that position helps to show the anomoly better. So just rotate it when you find this to be true and it will be easier to be seen. The 9 appears to look larger, but I think the die crack tends to make it look that way.

Added thought: I see two more posts happened while I was creating my post. Laughing Laughing

David,
With what might be some doubling north of the first 1 you might want ot take a close look at the RTY in Liberty and areas to the center of the obverse such as the ear, tie, hair at the back of the neck etc...
Just a thought.

Steven,

The bowtie has a extra bow in the open field. The hair has a extra set of hair with a hook back toward's the head. The ear is about worn off. The RTY is worn enough that it look's the same as the other letter's.I would take picture's but the batterie's just died.
