I decided to take another close look at the 46S/D at see some other stuff going on where I have indicated with arrows. Could the area the arrow pointing just under the nine be another S and there is a split lower serif indicated. To think probably in the extreme could it actually be S/S over D and S. Confused I did notice the same raised area below the 9 on the example listed.

That's interesting

In the CPG picture you can also see the 2 raised areas at the 9s tail and they arrow to that bottom corner as if it's the corner of the lower D, maybe you can try an overlay on it? interesting.

The marvelous power of the binocular scope.

Okay Steven - It does look like there is some Master Die Doubling on the tail of the 9. The gouge below the 9 is just that and shows up well with a different light angle.

As you pointed out there is a split in the lower serif of the S, sooooooooo that would make it a S/S/D, however, since this is a very minor RPM, it is better left that way, S/D, rather than to confuse matters. Not everone would change and you would have numbering systems that would show the change while others wouldn't, which would lead to people believing that there were actually two different dies invloved. These are the pictures that I took of the two that I have. The combo picture is of the same die, just different light.

Both of these two examples are LDS.

Thanks for the look,
Maybe one of thesedays I'll be able to get a scope. In the mean time I am fairly satisfied with the cheap set up I have. I can get about as close and with clarity as I need for now to point. When I zoom to the max of my camera I only get clarity about twice as wide as a MM or a bit more. As you can see on the photo I took above it starts to blur near the bottom of the MM.
