agony, Mississippi? Not sure where that is? Just kiding Darrell. Hang on, if your desire to quit is stronger than a Cigarette, then you will make it. You will have your ability to say I made it, with my coin coillection in tact. You've just got to have a firm determination to quit and accept nothing less than that till your done with them. Hang in there! We are all behind you.

I smoked for 4o years. Quit in June of 2003 just a few days after my Dad died of severe emphysema. Not long after that I got my uncle to quit. He's been smoking a long time too. I feel so much better now! No more coughing and heaving like I am dieing. Anytime I get the craving for a cigarette I just take a deep breath and think of my Dad in his last few days of life on this Earth.

My philosiphy on the patch and the nicotine gum is this .............. what you are basically doing by quitting smoking is trying to get the nicotine out of you system so you body wont crave it. so the patched and the gum just adds to the nicotine 9in your body and really doesnt help you. but thT IS MY philosyphy 0r how ever you spell it.

Darrell, the idea is to give you the lesser of the evils, by allowing you a little nicotine, while denying you the harmful smok, and toxic particles that you inhale, while smoking. There is a method to their madness! Keep the patch, and gum, if you like to chew, handy. Don't worry about the spelling, if it is close, just like in "horseshoes", it counts! We are not sticklers for spelling.

the only way to stop smoking is to just stop. i smoked for over 30 years and tried to stop for at least 10 years of that time i tried the patch and some nicotine crap you spray in your nose (don't do that) yuck gum i did it all. then one day in 1999 after i hurt myself and couldn't work my wife who also smoked came to me and said "we have the money for cigarettes or food" well the choice was easy we smoke lol no we stopped smoking and ate. ask Coop i am no longer that 5 ft 135-145 pound guy i was before stopping lol but i do feel better. take that anyway you like

It is not easy to quit smoking! I smoked for 25 years, and when I coughed so hard I lost my breakfast, I figured it was time to quit. I gave the two, and a half packs to one of my co-workers, and stopped, cold turkey! It was hard. No one can deny, it is very hard! I am as hard-headed as any you will find, but when I decided it was over, that was it. I haven't smoked since 1968.

Cathy, it isn't the cigarettes! DON'T start!
I believe the ones who REALLY want to quit smoking, or any other thing they want to do, can, and will. As you know, the hardest part is deciding to quit, and staying with the decision, in spite of the desire to grab a smoke. After about two weeks, it starts to get a bit easier. After 30 days, it is done. But don't think, well I did it, and think well I'll try one, just to prove I can quit. BIG mistake! You need to S T O P! Don't use candy etc as a "pacifier", because you will have two problems! BTDT! It takes LOTS of WILL-POWER! When I had problems with high blood pressure, I weighed 225 pounds. I decided that if I had Maruchan noodles, for two meals a day, and stopped eating candy, cookies, sweet Mexican bread, and stopped the SODAS, i could lose a bit of weight. I went to 180, and hold tha to this day. It is just a case of WANTING to do something, and it will be done. All it takes is WILLPOWER, and the decision to do it! What is holding YOU back???

lol Cathy.
Dick it doesn't never go away. or at least for me it doesn't i stopped about 5-6 years ago and i still catch myself looking for my smokes now and then. and when someone lights up around me i still want one. that is the big fight in my opinion. but you are correct that the only way to stop is to stop!

I agree, almost! I quit smoking many years ago, but Even tho I smoked for many years. I don't think I was "addicted" to the nicotine, per se, but just the habit of "doing it" I had no problems quitting, and I have had a "carrot in my face", all these years. My wife smokes, (and I guess I am a "second-hand" smoker), but don't have the urge to light up one. I might add that I quit drinking the same way. I woke up in my folks house, in my bedroom, stark naked, and no idea who I was, nor where I was, at 2 PM, when a schoolmate, and her newly acquired hubby, came in and woke me up! They told me of my "activities" of the night before, at the dance, and that done it! No more hard licquor!!! I used to drink a beer now, and again, but when I went on blood pressure medications, I decided that alcohol, and medicine do not mix! Forgive me for running on about this, but a success story is worthy of repitition! Want to lose weight? Easy. When you eat, just eat to fill your hunger pangs. Just because there is still some left on the plate, doesn't mean you HAVE to eat it! Next time you fill your plate, put only half of what you usually do. Then leave the table, and stick to it! No diet! just will-power! I used to eat a half-gallon of ice cream, while Betty was preparing supper. Now that same half gallon, lasts 7-10 days. I eat anything, everything I want, and don't worry about the weight, because I only eat a piece of candy, instead of the whole box! Chips Bet you can't eat just one! Right! So just eat a few, a small handfull, like half a dozen, and STOP! So pay heed! Eat to live, not live to eat!
