I searched a few rolls of the new 2007 MT quarters and found several examples of this raised bump in front of the eye...
It does not look like the molten gunk that often builds up on the new quarters. The bump is the same on a 6 examples I found. I thought it might be another clash, but the part of reverse opposite the eye has no north/south edges that I can see. I can't see any source of doubling (except perhaps the bridge of the nose). So is it die gouge?

Ken, That can't be a gouge, because it is too clean, and sharp. It is close in on the whole area, including the "eyeball". I thought die crack, but the above doesn't hold. A struck thru? This will be a nice one to figure out!

Gary, I imagine you are right. It sure could be.

I sent the coin in to Wexler. I am still relativly inexperienced with this -- if it is a crack, it is not like one I've seen before. What ever it is, it is in the die. Here are side-by-side photos of 2 different coins. With these extreme closeups, you can see saw-tooth like surfaces on the left edge - exactly the same pattern on both.
In fact, oddly enough, it kind of looks like a clash with a Minnesota reverse.

Very interesting. I find little oddities like this on our coinage fascinating.
Not too long ago I posted a question about this die chip ( ???) on a 92 Lincoln.
I love this stuff.

Wow - now that one looks cool. It is very similar to the MT quarter bump - just going a different direction.

Gary, it is too deep in the eye socket, next to the nose. I think only two things could show there, very clear, one a die chip, or a doubled die. The crud that is seen there, at times, is too small to make that kind of lump.

I like your photos of the quarter. The blue contrasts well with the silver to bring out all the folds and contours of the coin and that's what you want. ...and that's just what you accomplished!
