I just got this today and shot some pics. There's doubling on LIBERTY and 1909. Is this machine doubling or a possible DD? Thanks, Mike

Hard to tell from the angle of the light. It looks like MD, but I can't be sure. Maybe Bob, or Coop can say.

Still a nice 1909. Very Happy

The clue that it's MD/strike doubling is that on the 9 and TY the primary image narrows where the doubling is because the second hit smeared the metal away from the first. Most DDOs would still be the normal thickness because the double image is not struck onto the primary image, it's in addition to it.

A good comparison is if you look at this compared to 1909 DDO 1DO-001 (die-1) (FS-012) you will see the differance.

Ed, That's about the most succinct explaination I've ever heard. You're good...real good. Thanks, Mike

Mike, and ED, While I have been able to spot ann MD easy enough, (after I found out what they were), I had not looked at them in this way. Having had it so well explained, the obvious becomes even more obvious! Add my thanks for such a clear, and informative view!
