It has been snowing here non-stop since early yesterday morning and we still don't have a half inch on the ground. Every time it starts to stick the wind blows it off into a drift...so, we have very little accumulation except in the leeward areas (ditches, downed trees, etc.) where we have foot deep drifts. I'm sure they are used to this kind of weather farther north, but we are more accustomed to the wet snow that accumulates more evenly.
BTW, the temperature outside is 12 degrees and the wind is out of the north at 15 MPH. I don't have a handy wind chill calculator available, but I would guess the wind chill to be around minus 10 right now.
High/lows expected for the remainder of the week...23/10, 18/5, 35/20, 40/30, 46/35.
That 46/35 for Sunday, if true, would make it the first day in a month we will have seen a 24 hour period without going below freezing.
Expecting flurries to continue today, tonight, clear for a day, then the flurries pick back up Friday. Lots of days with snow but nothing to show for it. At least the roads aren't bad.

Gentlemen, chalk this one up to EL Nino! Think back a few years, like '93, or'94, when the southwest was ravaged by the rains. We know a lot about the weather, but very little about the different weather patterns, over centuries, past.
Keep warm, and don't give up. It'll get warmer before long, and then everyone will be griping about the heat!

Snow, snow, hail, slush, freezing rain and snow.. thats what we have been getting for the last 24 hours. I cant get out of my front door. The drift is 1/2 way up it. We have been keeping the back door clear though.
I made white chicken chili and ... ummm apple pie. I couldn't stop myself. Hubby says Im not allowed to buy apples any more. I told him the pie was for the Snow Gods. To appease them..., they must not like apple pie either.. its still snowing... snowing... snowing....
(For those of you not in the "Know".. it's family tradition for the women folk in our family to bake apple pies when the snow flies... the men folk no longer appreciate the effort!!)

Cathy, it sure beats just putting a big pot of water on the stove, to increase the humidity. Makes a nice smell, and helps keep the place warm! Especially, when they make them from scratch! Keep your feet warm!
BTW, what is "white chicken chili"?

aww tis yummy...
chop up a couple of boneless skinless chicken breasts and cook them in a bit of butter with some chopped onion... add 3 cans of white kidney beans.. also known as cannanolli beans?? not sure on the spelling, juice and all and a package of chili seasoning... spice it up a bit with a can of diced chili peppers. If too thick add some chicken broth or water salt and paper to taste.
eat like chili.. and its better for you. Good with cornbread or crackers.
Its very good.
Some people ruin it by adding a can of canned tomatoes, which I personally cant stand. I am probably the only person who makes chili without tomatoes... chicken or beef chili.
Canned tomatoes = Slimmy!! Yucky!!

Just in case anyone from the north is interested, there are tons of robins up here in NY. That always means spring is on the way. And I just loved the headlines last week when we got 2' of snow. It read.. "THE GROUNDHOG LIED". I love it.
We're due for more snow tonight. And here I was praying for snow so that when my 4 yr old grandson gets here later this week, he could finally see snow. I over did it, I guess.

Mary,
Interesting that you should mention Robins. In this part of Florida, the sheer number of Robins that have been seen around here has been astounding. At any one time, there would be 50 or so of them in the back yard. So many of them that even the dog gave up chasing them
According to the local Audubon Society club, there are more Robins in this area this year than the last 7 or 8 years....combined!

Cathy, Mary, and all you gentlemen, Hello! All I see in my bird feeder, in sunny SO. CA., (well, some of the time. It is cold, and we are going to get more rain, within 24 hours), is SPARROWS!!! The only exception, was a little love bird, (small parrot, Austrailian Nyasa Class), happened to stop by for a hand-out, and I caught him in a small cage! He lives like a king, now. His name is "Tweety" sings, and chirps, but no talk, yet. Still hard to handle, but is getting used to my hand, and sits on my finger. I thought it was odd that one of them was loose, but there are a lot of birds here, that have escaped from the "new" owners!. He probably is one of them. He does not bite, so maybe it has been someones pet. We got him just after Christmas.
Enjoy the weather folks, "it ain't gonna get any better" for a while, so do as Confucius says: "When rape inevitable, relax and enjoy it"!
Dick
