OK folks, I have thought about posting a pic or two every once in a while, and letting folks have a guess as to what they are. The purpose of this is strictly educational and to help you folks try to identify what we do when we attribute some coins. They could be legitimate varieties, or something else. I want you all to have a look and tell me what you think they are. There are no prizes or trips to Vegas for guessing correctly, just the knowledge that you are learning something here. Some will be rather simple, others...not so simple. If you think the coin pictured is a doubled die, I want you to tell me what class it might be. If it's an RPM, tell me the proper designator (ie S/S south). If it's an error of some sort, see if you can tell me the proper name for the error. Sound like fun?? Here is the first one. The date is 1995D. What do you think it is??

One may think that, but consider what year it is?

One more note to add to these games we will be playing. As I said, this is for educational purposes. Some of the pics later on will be from the site, and I don't want anyone going through all the pics on the site to get the correct info. Try to take your best guess based on what you know now. You won't learn anything by going to the site to get the correct info. OK???

A trick question?

Well it's not the well known 95-D DDO 3-0-V but it does look like an RPM so since that year being an RPM would be a double die I'd look close at the rest of it. Maybe it could be a new one or one of the other known 95-D DDOs 1-0-V or 2-0-V but I have not seen pics of those.

It does have a spot of corrosion making a pothole.

Bob, it looks like a simple MD. NO way an RPM, (DATE). The hole looks to be nothng more than a "blow-out" from the zinc, and the copper plating, causing a chemical reaction. "(self-destructing).

I won't play out of respect for Bob's attempt to help others, but I will say that so far there are some good thoughts out there.

Thanks, Bob, for keeping things fun and for the trouble you go through.

Some good responses so far, but I won't tell you if any guesses are correct yet. I want to leave it up there a few more days to see if anyone else has anything to say. Even if someone else has alrady guessed what you think it is, give me your input as well. Numbers of responses is a good thing too you know.
For you Murph....what's the make and model???

Bob, I'd say a 1951 Plymouth Sedan with a wobbly right front tire causing vibration on right side - D/D. That's my story and I'm stickin to it! Very Happy

OK...consider it noted as your official guess (although I'm pretty sure you messed up on which tire was wobbly)

Well I don't know about a car but it kinda look's like a hand holding the D, then a sniper made a good shot.

I would guess D/D 199?

What I can't understand, is what are the curved lines that seem to protude from the jacket area? I still hold my ground on MD.
