I've never had coins come back with fingerprints from any of the top four.
An acetone bath would be the first thing I'd try to remove fingerprints.

Russellhome, I too have had problems with ANACS.
When I submitted my 2004 Discovery Piece nickel to them, it came back with the goo stuff you describe. The goo was on the reverse, right on the edge of the coin. I was ticked off, but just ignored it.
After some time, I noticed that the area around the goo started to tone. I cracked the coin out, removed the goo and resubmitted it. It came back with no goo, but I did have to pay an extra $40 .

For most of my life, I was never one to complain if I felt I was wronged or taken advantage of. When I was a teen, I purchased via mail order what was supposted to be a 1798 large cent in Fine condition. What I got was an 1802 large cent, badly corroded with Fine details. I got ripped off and didn't do anything about it.
A few years ago, I purchased an HP scanner and placed it on my oak desk. A few months later, I moved it to a new location and found that the black rubber pads on the bottom of the scanner had bled something into my oak desk leaving 4 half dollar size black spots that would not wipe off. A $200 scanner ruined my $2000 oak desk and I was POed. For the first time in my life, I complained. And it paid off. HP sent me a $1000 top-of-the-line business grade scanner as a replacement and paid to have my desk resurfaced. So I learned that it pays to complain if you have a legitimate beef.
As far as ANACS or other coin grading services are concerned, I don't feel I can complain about grades, rulings of authenticity or damage (such as cleaning) - unless it is a clear and utter mistake (i.e. a MS60 coin coming back as a VG). But mislabeled coins, fingerprints and the unsightly goo lining the coin are quality control problems and complaints are fully justified. For me, ANACS paid FEDEX postage both ways and made my problem a top priority. I had my coins back in a week.
