Forecast called for rain changing to snow in the early AM on Wednesday, less than one inch accumulation.
now for reality...
It's 1:45, the rain changed to snow rapidly at midnight, there's 3 inches on the ground, and it's still snowing heavily. Newest forecast calls for 4-6 inches to end around noon.
Woo-Hoo!!

We got a dusting. It was every bit of 71 degrees Monday. It didn't make it to 41 yesterday. The ground (road) was too warm for it to stick except in the woods.
More snow coming this weekend.

Not to be mean, but you can keep Florida. I couldn't stand the heat in the summer and don't like doing without my snow in the winter. I guess you could call me a four-seasons person.

We get four seasons here in the FL panhandle. The diff in avg temp between summer and winter is probably 50 degrees. (that's a big-time WAG)
A bit of snow every 10 years or so... LOL

I believe our average difference is a bit closer to 80 degrees, realistically. I have not seen a summer here yet that it didn't hit 95 at least once, and I don't remember a winter that it didn't get down to 10 degrees. Two years ago we hit -9, and that's the air temperature.
If we keep going at the rate we've started, we'll have another swashbuckling winter. Average snowfall is 20 inches per year. We already have 7 officially on the books, and we're expecting another round Friday night, Saturday, and Saturday night. That kind of duration will bring at least 8 more inches.
Snowiest on record was 59 inches, I don't remember the year. Last year was third on record with 45 inches...I'm loving it!

Try living in Upstate New York, LOL. Last year, if I recall correctly, our total snowfall was 140+ total inches. We had snowbanks a lot taller than me in front of the house next to the road.
And when I travelled a little further north to visit my sister, all 4 of the Stop Signs in her little town had disappeared. They were all under the snow.
But I agree snow can be a wonderful gift. Last Winter reminded me of Winters from my childhood, and being able to dig all these inter-connecting tunnels under the snow. I loved it!! It was great seeing all the kids last Winter doing the same thing I was able to do as a kid.
But we are starting more slowly this year. Only about 4 inches on the ground so far.

Last year wast the first "white Christmas" Oklahoma had seen in years. Had about 8" on the ground at one time.
Yesterday afternoon it rained, then sleeted, then snowed. Forecasters said 3-6 inches but it looks more like 2 inches this morning.
The thing that impresses me is how quiet things are right after a heavy snowfall.

Dana - I only wish I could live where there is that much snow. Oh well..
We had our second snow last night and this morning, about 5 inches altogether. At one point yesterday the forecasters were calling for a foot of snow, but that didn't happen...too much dry air advection into the leading edge of the storm caused virga for the first two hours the storm was over us, stealing a few inches from the total, then the dry, cold air helped keep the totals down. Bummer.
Oh well, we have about six inches on the ground right now with drifts 2-3 feet deep.

Our first snow is now officially gone...except for the piles in the parking lots and a couple of dots of left-over snow from 2-3 foot deep drifts in the ditches....bummer. Looks like no white Christmas here.

I don't go to far upstate but sometimes my wife and I take a nice drive by West Point, Avon on the Hudson. There are some very nice historic towns up that way. Not sure if you would really call that upstate. Joe

Joe,
The term "Upstate" in New York depends on where you are from, or where you are coming from it seems. If you are coming from New York City, then West Point, Avon on the Hudson is considered upstate.
We are actually a little further North and a bit west, closer to the Adirondacks. The reason why we get so much snow is also because we are closer to Lake Ontario, and east of it. When a storm hits in the Winter, we often get snow from both the storm, plus what they call "Lake Effect" snow. Kinda a double whammy.
By the way, the area you speak of is beautiful.
