David, that is why I like the Buy, trade, and sell section. One knows with whom he/she deals.

Would not wory about bidding against members, it's fair.
I do try to buy their stuff if I see it or even send a PM, maybe they will sell you another or trade you.

I did once feel realy bad because I did bid against someone then realized it was one of the crew here Embarassed

After thinking about it I guess it's fair, everyone bids what a thing is worth to them and you can't wory who they are. Just be careful not to be ripped off.

Ed,

I got your PM. Didn't know about people that would scam. You Do What You Have To. Keep Me Informed.

Guess I would need to guard myself against that. I thank you for the PM since it has dissapeared since opend.

Like I said before, I don't want to bid against anyone here.

David

Yea it would be bad to get ripped off but for me I even get upset just watching it happen to others.

Sadly places like ebay are not able to stop it themself, it would not be possible unless they were like brokers holding the money until both parties were satisfied. Being careful like Dick said is the key. It's like gambling you can buy a $5 item and forget it if it was rip off but if buying a big item you better know the seller or have a guarantee. Better safe than sory Wink

You are welcome, David. I didn't know if it would work, but I figured , "nothing ventured, nothing gained"!

i know ebay is scam central but if i found a 92-D closed AM i would be selling it right now and ive never sold anything in my life on ebay...everybody has to start somewhere when it comes to ebay and if i happened to stumble upon a nice coin that carries a premium you had better believe that it would be my first sale... Im not trying to argue or anything like that, i just think new ebay sellers get a bad rap just because they dont have a history of selling high dollar stuff. Sure there are lots of scammers out there but if you typically sold $3 items and then find a nice penny roll searching would you not sell it on the bay? Thats why the protection is in place ie. paypal, insurance, using a credit card etc...Maybe im just naieve but i dont think every ebay seller with low feedback or no history of selling high dollar stuff is a scammer

Yes. That's sort of what we said, with low feedback the guarantee is important. Beyond that it's trusting a person you don't know.

By the way, I just looked and saw that even with no guarantee beyond the $200 somebody bought it for just under $3000.

I'd sell it now, even though it's been a while since 92 nobody looked for 92 close AMs until recently. Somebody might have a bag with lots of them and if it gets found they will drop in price. I doubt they will get beyond that price, to have a value it's a mix of being scarce and very high interest. This coin might stay with few known but the interest won't be like a 55 DDO so the price IMHO seems too high.

In the 60s they made quarters with a proof design reverse (not proof finish). When discovered they went for big bucks but now you can find them for a bargain price. Extra leaf quarters went for 1000+ then dropped. It's wise to not fight over buying the first examples of varieties but do look for them unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket and I only have a hole in mine but no extra cash!!!!

Im not sure about NGC but dont most grading companies gaurentee that there coins are attributed right? If they are not you can return the coin to them with reciept and they will reimburse you the paid price or did they stop that? I have heard youusually have to fight and prove that there attribution is wrong. And the paypal reimbursment works the same way bought a coin about 3 years ago and it took 3 months to get my money from paypal Crying or Very sad

Only the top companies stand behind their work.

The other risk you take is a holder can be opened and resealed or completely fake. I've heard of people re-submitting coins to the top 3 and being told it was a faked holder or it had been opened and coins swapped or grade altered. This is why they added holograms and other things to holders but even those can be faked.
