This clashed 57-d looks so crisp I had to post it. It shows without a magnifier.
Talk about a CRASH It wounded both dies. Other coins in the same roll had polish and only remnants of this collision but this coin is crisp and clear.
My labels are approx, not exactly the neck or chin but close......
(added later: that's the N of cent not the T, I didn't realize but from the pic of the reverse you can see exactly where the letters hit, just slide from the upper to lower pics and you can see where the leg of N went out below his chin)
Other ones from the same roll, looks like obv might have just mellowed after more use, the C blended away.
The reverse clash seemed to change... maybe someone can tell me if looks like they only polished it and it looks moved or did they swap the rev die or what?

ED, that is a real jewel! I have one that the "E" is clear, on the lapel, but all the rest is not visible, like yours! I look for those, but few fall into my "grimy paws"! Thanks for sharing!

Dick,
I'm waiting to see one with a mirrored date on the reverse!
I'm always amazed how the clashes seem to move around. I know all coins are not oriented the same but it seems like clashes move more than would be expected. Another mystery!

ED, I don't believe I'd hold my breath, until it happens! THe location will preclude any possibility of that happening, unless the operator, and inspector, plus any others involved in QC are all asleep, at the same time. THe other devices, yes, I can visualize them showing unsder certain conditions, but the date, No, I don't believe it will ever happen. One never sees more than the "RTY, or some of the bays, but not all of them, I don't believe, unless it was a clash like the one you just posted. The concave face of the die(s), may be designed to avoid this happening. If not by design, then by the shape, itself.

Very, very cool clash Ed. You definitely got one of the coins struck immediately after the clash. Some of those nicer ones can go for a premium to the right collector. Nice find!

ED, and Bob, too. I had an after thought in that regard, and I don't recall seeing other than the upper portion of the "E" in "one", in the wheat clashes. Memorials, yes quite a bit more. But other than the "E", and a stem on the wheat sprig, nothing. I'll bet those dies were both changed out right afterwards!
Bob, The eagle landed, today, and brought a beautiful friend! Thank you very much!

I love clashed coins.
Being an early classic coin collector and a variety guy to boot just kinda makes you have to love these.
That is a great example.

Added pics of another from the same roll. There was only one as crisp as the first one but several like this. Looks like the same obv just mellowed from being used. The reverse changed a lot, polish lines and the clash even looks like it moved. What do you think? Just polished or what?

Richard, It may be my imagination, but If you look up high, behind Abe's Heaf, close to "IN GOD, there is just a shadow if the wheat stem, going down toward the grains. I have seen several clashes in that area.\BTW, welcome to the forum Richard. We like questions, and there are many who can , and do answer all that have been asked, so far!

Dick,
Thank you! Here's a shot of the lower portion of the reverse[url]
The line or "ledge" continues down through the N in united and through the O in of down to the wheat stem. There's another ledge from the right leg of R in america down to the other wheat stem. Fascinating stuff.

Richard, I saw that in the other photo. It is very interesting.
ED you said you would like to see a "morrored image of the date. I hate ti burst your bubble, but It ain't gonna happen! The reason is the top right portion of the Memorial building is in that area, and frequently, one does see part of the I showing, at the top of the penthouse. I haven't seen a 'deuce" yet.

Welcome to the forum Haskett
That's a nice find on a 12-S.
Just imagine out of that small population of high grades to find one with a nice clash is cool.
