it looks like the 3 does as well..if thats the case i would say MD but im no expert, i just remember seeing a post by chuck saying that double dies and RPM's are in no way connected until they stopped repunching the MM in the 90's. So basically IF i read his post right there cant be a DDO+RPM on an early coin. Which is how i drew the MD conclusion. I could be WAAAYYY off base though. Just a thought.

Machine doubling...sorry.

It's flattened, there is no split in the serif, and there is no added size to the overall mintmark. That plus the date is affected lead to only one thing.

Aaron,

On new ones where they did not punch the mm seperately if it has a DDO it will also effect the mm since they are hubbed at the same time. Still you could get one where it did not show enough on one or the other depending on the pivot point but for the most part on those coins like for example the 95-D ddo it's a nice DDO and it shows on the mm. The key is on new ones they are related and to some extent a DDO will usually show on both DDO and MM. Still the doubled mintmark is part of the DDO not an RPM since the mintmark was never punched on new ones.

On older ones they were done seperately so it can be just an RPM or just a DDO. They are unrelated. There are older ones that by chance do have an RPM made when they punched the mm and a DDO from when they hubbed the die. It would just be coincidence. But there are a lot of those. 71-S 1D0-001P is a neat one that has both (still unrelated to eachother) then there are many others like a nice 1960-D 1DO-001 Sm over Lg date that has a totaly unrelated far apart RPM.
The key thing is the DDO and RPM are unrelated but can both happen.
