Many 1984-P have this doubling on the top of the O of ONE. It looks like abrasion doubling and it's on many different 1984-P dies but I haven't seen it on other years. Is this abrasion doubling or maybe master doubling? Rolling Eyes

You are correct that this is on many dies...especially 1983 and 1984. I do believe it is caused by die deterioration. Years ago, this doubling fooled many people into thinking they had actual doubled dies.

It could also be part of an ejection doubling. E-D may be different from coin to coin or may be the same on certain ones. I've never noticed that before. One to add to my mental file to check for.

I have seen that affect a few times myself and mostly on LDS to VLDS condition coins. I think tha Bob hit the nail on the head as it being a form of die detrioration doubling.

Coop, I was not aware Lincoln had ED. Too bad Bob Dole was not around to share his Viagra.

I would have shared mine, but I was a little too young to "qualify", when Abe had his "needs". Sorry.

I appreciate having Lincoln on the Cent. As a child I always thought a lot about him. When researching Lincoln I found out he was despised by many when he was President. Was very unpopular and even called a "Hairy" person. He had to lead at an unpopular time and is known by us now as one of the favorite Presidents. I'm glad he is on the Cent and one of the first of the Presidents used on coinage. (as far a I know) So I enjoy searching Cents the most. Because of the history of the time and the price is right for a copper bust of him.
