Here is a brief story about my AT&T. Received my bill. 2 new companies listed on the bill with a monitary amount due. Contacted AT&T. Was told I must have signed up for this with those companies and it is up to me to undo this. I called the companies. One said I signed up for this and the other one admitted they found my name on the internet, looked up in people search enough info to have thier company added to my AT&T bill. Back to AT&T. They said they are obligated to add any phone company, phone maker, phone service bills to thier bills if the company said to do it and not have to check with the customer. AT&T said it is called CRAMMING and it is legal. Again, it is up to the customer to stop this, not AT&T. AT&T will send you a form for SLAMMING and one for CRAMMING, two different things and 2 different forms. The customer must fill our these forms and pay the postage to send them in. The customer must contact the companies to stop these charges already tabulated. At&T does not do such services for thier customers. I asked if AT&T had the addresses of these companies for me. One call to AT&T said that info is not available. After several additional calls AT&T finally gave me those addresses. There is so much more to this story since it has been a long battle but I just thought I'd sum it up for you in case you have AT&T. PLEASE CHECK YOUR BILLS CAREFULLY. Note with the slightest bit of information you can find out massive amounts of info on people on People Search.
The above situation is now in the one month episode and now waiting for these forms from AT&T.

Let me tell you about my AT&T. I had SBC Communications for a while, no problems - loved them and was paying about $15.80 per month if no long distance calls. Then AT&T took them over and right away my bill jumps to $36.00! My bill has been up to $62 with no long distance calls and like Carl said there was another company listed on the bill charging me a big fee. I had them taken off only to have another one listed later on. One of them was for services (...like email forwarding!)that I never signed up for and the other one was to a company who handles prisoner collect calls from when my son called me from jail one time. They kept charging me $16-something every month whether I get a call from jail or not. I had to cancel that too before they would stop charging me. I'm just waiting for my cable company to offer phone service in my area - free local & long distance for $30.00! I hate AT&T!

Ahh At&T .. I use to work for MCI so I know how the billing crap works... However I once spent 7.5 hours on the phone at a drive up pay phone with 2 children less than 5 yrs old in the car with me because on the day I recieved a $1500.00 phone bill they ANTICIPATED I would not pay it and shut off services.
It was a bogus bill. They admitted the "clerical error" and asked me to pay for the bill and dispute it later to get my services turned back on.
I said thank you very much let me speak to your sup. I kept going until I was transfered to a VP in texas (23 transfers) who was annoyed to take my call. When I explained EVERYTHING including the call time she zero'ed out the bill and the phone was turned on BEFORE I got back to my house. 5- 10 minutes. I changed service provider the next month and have NEVER had a problem since. I have digital though my cable and love it.

I'm actually still calling AT&T customer service and complaining about their policy of adding companies on to my bill without my authorization. All they keep saying is it could happen to anyone with any telephone service. It is completely legal for a legitamate organization to add charges to AT&T or other phone companies bills unless they have filled out the proper forms. I have requested these forms and so far only received the one for Slamming. Cramming form to follow. I would stop this but I am irritated enough to irritate them.

I'm starting to think AT&T just likes to get even with me for stuff I used to do when I worked there. I"m still fighting with them about my bills. In the mail I received wrong forms again and also a pamphlet indicating slamming and cramming are against the law. I called AT&T and said how come what you tell me on the phone and what is in the stuff you send me is different. Answer: Must be from a different department.
