I just ran across this article on the net:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002496.htm
And they say that...
| Quote: |
| Touching large amounts of copper can result in hair discoloration (green). |
...oh my God! Anybody got green hair?
I can see some poor green haired kid on a loading dock somewhere loading copper pipe one stick at a time, lol. I know that a copper ring will turn your finger green, I've seen it. But how many people have you seen with green hair from copper poisoning? That's weird.

Oh my God! Does this mean they are putting copper in pet food now? Was the copper from China also? I heard the rat poison was.

Good information on copper, however, I do think that none of us have to worry about handling pennies.
I do know of one case where copper tubing did kill a person. It was in Groton, Conn. at Electric Boat Ship Builders. That facility was built on a hill that went down to the river where they would finish outfitting nuclear submarines. Well some ship yard worker decide he wanted 60 pounds of copper tubbing, so he wrapped it around himself, put on his jacket and started going up the steep hill. He never made it to the top; the extra weight and him being out of shape caused him to have a heart attack from to much exertion. This is a true story.
One other thing to point out is that the zinc in our cents today is more toxic than the copper and it could be potentially dangerious to a small child who does swallow some.
Actually there is no metal that is really any good for our bodies except maybe stainless steel.
You all have a good one.
