1983 what kind of doubling?

I found these two identically doubled cents. What kind of doubling is this? Die deterioration + a die gouge?

It might be die deterioration doubling.

Sort of like the 1984-Ps that I posted with the O of one.
Like those 84-Ps the doubling looks angled a lot compared to the normal image.

I've seen that 83-p, 84-p, 87-p have a lot of realy deteriorated reverse dies that caused some neat looking doubling. I'll try to post a real strange 87 that I think is a similar effect.

But you never know, after seeing that new 83 ddr on the site what else might be out there!

Here's the 87-P which I think is also deterioration doubling. Notice it primarily went towards the rim with the metal flow. These also tend to go away from the elements like on the I of ica and then again it shows on 84-P below it where it ends up doubled above the O of one. They end up with odd angles and strange direction of the second image like the I of ica seems doubled to the rim but also on both sides in both directions:

Ed that is pretty wild doubling of America on your '87P. And I have seen many 1984's with the doubled area atop the "O" in ONE.
I would like to hear from Chuck or Bob about my '83.

Notice the I of America on my 87 and the leading bar of the N of United on your 83 both have an almost identical thing that made them look like an arrow pointing to the rim

I think it is because the die deterioration goes away from those elements.

This same type of doubling was brought up on another thread not too long ago. It is definitely die deterioration doubling. This seems to be more prevalent on the early 80s cents. The first pic looks like it may also have some mechanical doubling as well. Some of these get way past this die state too, and all you'll see is basically a big blob.

Thanks Bob, that's what I thought. It was that diagonal bar coming off the leading edge of the N as Ed mentioned that threw me.
Now I know that die deterioration can cause not only parallel doubling, but occasionally diagonal bars as well.
