Steven's coin looks like a bad case of gas. I mean on the coin. A large gas bubble that distorted the column and the bay...

It's not very plain to see, but in the center of this photo is a "Needle & Thread" Strike Through.
This is a "Jailhouse Lincoln" named for the bars that surround Lincoln.

Murph,
Am I mistaken or is there a second set of bays above those that are obvious above liberty.

Steven, I see what you refer to, and it looks like a piece of tape had been placed in that area, at some time in the past. For what? There are still faint residue across the head, from back to front, or vice-versa, and it is causing this effect. All other areas concerned with a very srtong die clash, are normal, under high magnification. the "needle, and thread", shows nicely.

Dick, no tape.
Steven, if you're talking about that "bayonet" looking scrape, it is just that, a scrape or ding, not another bay. I don't see anything to indicate another set of bays above the ones that are most obvious.
One note about clashes. They are opposite from everything we normally see on a normal finished cent. The raised areas are depressions in a die. The fields are the highest point on a die! The top is the bottom on a clash. The left side is on the right. So with that in mind look for what resembles an old WW-I or WW-II English helmet behind Lincoln's head. That solid dark area ia actually the fields under the memorial. The light area between the the "hat" and the bays are where the steps are, but they didn't show up in a die clash because they aren't raised areas. And of course the dark areas that resemble the bays are just that only everything is up-side-down. Lincoln's portrait was a depression in the obverse die and thus it was not touched. The fields around Lincoln were the raised areas on the die and they absorbed the clash as you can see. If you look behind Lincoln's head you'll see one bay that has a big notch in it. That notch is actually a corner of the right side planter. Look on a cent and you'll see where the planters cut a notch into the bay. Interesting stuff.
edit: BTW, that is not the roof of the memorial that you see bisecting the date, it is a ding.

Murph, I didn't think the field would show that strong, but like I said, I have never seen a clash so strong! I have only seen pictuures of this type, but none "in hand". I think the date might have a very small piece of the "1" showing above the roof in some clashes, but not in this one. I recall some one pointing out the small line above the roof, on a post, some time back. Any way you put it, it is a very interesting clash!

OK, back to the subject of funnies. This one I've posted before, but look at the expression on Abe's face?
That one I found while searching with tired eyes after going through a lot of Cents that day. Wasn't looking for it, it just looked my way. That is why I noticed the alien Cent. It can only be seen in that position. Turn at any other angle and the face disappears.

Abe looks a little angry. Wonder what brought that on, the price of Copper perhaps?
Here's a closer look at my Needle & Thread Strike Through...the needle is actually a ding, but the thread is the strike through:
