Even though I have been "looking" for them, I never could figure out the wavy step thing. So many seemed "wavy" to me. Until I actually found one a few minutes ago. No question about it once I saw it. It took me a minute to attribute it using the wonderful guide here and whalla. My first wavy step Lincoln. 2004P-1DR-006

Congratulations Rock! SOme of those wavysteps are really impressive. Your isn't bad. It's got some strong fluting on the left end. Keep those but look for the monsters. You'll find one soon now that you have broken the ice. Very Happy

As Murphy said "look for those monsters", which are from 1993 up to 1999 (except for one in 2001).

Congratulations on finding your first.

I'll add my 2-cents worth: When lookijg for the "wavy Steps", turn the coin up-side-down, and viewing fron the same angle you always do, focus on EPU, and then move the area of interest into view, WITHOUT adjusting the focus. You will see the fluting, and "creases" in the steps! Bj sent me one, and I never saw them, until I stumbled over them! NOW, I can spot them easily. Also, when checking from a photo on the site, be sure you look with the light coming from the same direction, as in the photo!

That's interesting Dick, because that is how I saw this one. I had the coin upside down as i usually have and was looking at the motto, then I work up to lincoln and the memorial then I glance further up at the steps. Boda-bing. It helped that it was a brilliant uncirculated coin too. The fluting and wavy steps were very distinct. Its also intersting what you said about the lighting. I have a hard time seeing the wavy steps in the pics sometimes but I will check the lighting direction when checking the next wave of waves I come across. thanks
Rock

You're welcome Rock, and like Chuck and others have said so many times, "Lighting is critical"!
