When your daily life take's you away from the coin's. I have a fulltime job and a family to keep me busy. Baseball and Soccer for the kid's. I also have the "honeydo" list that I tend to. Just a thought for the New Member's and the Member's that have been here since the inception.

Spare time? What's that?
I work at least 12 hours a day on coin related matters. Most of the rest of the time I'm having dinner with the family or asleep.

Like Chuck, I spend a lot of time on coins. However, I do some gardening with my bonsai and orchids. I also repair antique and costume jewelery for extra spending money.
Overall, I can not camplain about life. Being in the military for over twenty years is probably the best thing that I ever did and it just keeps paying off ever day. Virtually free medical and a great pension, plus the honor of serving this great country as a lot of us have done.

It's funny but when I see the results of great knowledge, huge collections and ground breaking studies and web sites from the people on this forum, I think you guys must all be single, no kids and independently wealthy. Where do they find the time? Just kidding, I know better. I have a wonderful family. Married 32 years and 6 of the 8 kids are grown and married. I work full time to pay the rent and my wife and I are involved with our church 2-3 days out of the week. I look at coins between dinner and bed and days off. It will take me about 2 weeks to go thru a box of rolls. I wish I could figure a way for someone to pay me to look at coins.

but I do spend MOST of my time searching coins.

Rock, Wouldn't we all! I'm a great-grandfather, and have been retired since '63. Of course I did work some, and spent some time in Mexico. Ten years on the border, and 8 years iin the interior.Worked as a bodyman/owner of a bodyshop. Decided that was not the best choice, so wewnt to work for Kaiser Steel. They folded, so I worked as a millwright or maintainance man 'til '81. Haven't worked since! Well, actually I still do, you know the "honey-do" lists, building hbirdhouses, patio furniture, lots of "drywashing" for gold. Done just about everything. Fireman on the AT&SF, handled dynamite in the mines, flown seaplanes, (emergency flight, and bounce hops, just in case the Pilot(s) became incapacitated), I could get us back home again. I was a converted AMM, and an ATCA. Flew as the radio op, and worked the rest of the Anti-Submarine stations on the flight deck. Had a grocery store in Mexico. Been a HAM Operator. "Jack of all trades", and pretty capable in most. Bi-lingual, and can cuss in six or seven languages. Never became a "shell-back", because I don't believe "pig-iron" will float! Had my share of single-engines, and on one ocassion we lost them both! Luckily , not at the same time. Lost the starboard engine, (threw a jug), and when we were looking for a "soft spot" to land , the port engine lost power, and we made an open sea landing. Smooth as glass, the surface! The landing was "slicker that a whisker"! Nothing like being young, and full of piss and vinegar!

We had a lot of family and friends who worked at kaiser. It was a major economic catastrophe when it closed down. The Inland Empire had thrived on Kaiser, Santa Fe and Norton and then one at a time they all closed up. It changed everything. We are trying to save up for a trip home to see family back in berdo and rialto. Would Love to stop in and shoot the breeze with you for a while Dick.

Let me know when you are coming so I can leave town! Just kidding! It would be nice to meet another coin-nut, like myself. I have never met one in person! Let me know when you will be in the area, and I'll PM you with the address. I'll even get new batteries for my hearing aids!
I started in Open hearth, and then went to BOP-1. That was in '79, when they went poof, and away she goes! From there to machine shops, and then in '83, to Mexico, for five years.

Sounds good Dick. You can get new hearing aid batteries and I'll cleanup my 3" coke bottle glasses I had a coin collecting buddy in 81-83 and it was great. We talked about and looked at coins every day. I miss that. There was a local coin shop that had the wall bids every monday night which we went to all the time. It was great. We used to dream of being able to afford the 1909-S vdb ms65 for the going rate of $450.00 That was 1/2 a month's gross salary. Wait a minute. You live there. Maybe you remember Coop's Coins in the Central City mall?

Rock, I have never been there. My son in AZ knows of it, and had been there numerous times, when he lived in the area. the closest one, now, is Fontana coins. I go there now, and then. Mostly to buy flips, and also some wheats. Got 600, last time I was there. I don't hit the shops as a rule, because I can't afford the prices they ask for the coins. I have seen some of the wall board coins, but am not familiar with how it operates. I don't know that much about coins, actually. I enjoy the search, and then just put away those that are found. I will admit, that it is about time I made another box for the flips. This one is getting full! Of course it will be over filled, if I take all the cents out of the smaller boxes, and transfer them to the big one. That will also get the higher denimination coins out of it. "Man-ya-na"! Big rush!

Spare time, you say? I used to have that. Now my so called spare time consists of trying to entertain 3 small children. I'm finding that going to Chucky Cheese's, Jeepers, Hoffman's playland, the neighborhood playgrounds and just going outside to play ball has taken up almost all of that spare time. What's left is spent trying to keep the kids fed, and the house and the kids clean. A never ending battle.
What I "used" to do in my spare time was to do some crocheting, needlework, arts and crafts, and going to my brother's house and helping him (help me) with some furniture repairing and refinishing. He's much better than I am, but I'm learning. I would occasionally take day trips to VT or MA and wander through the antique shops along the way. Sometimes I would even have lunch or dinner with some friends. I'll get back to these things someday.

Like a few others here, I am retired Military (24 years in the Air Force). I retired 11 years ago, and now build homes with my son-in-law. When I am not doing anything, of course I work on the coppercoins website and search rolls. (I guess that amounts to two or three hours a night if I feel like it). I have a few lady friends that like the dinner and wine scene, and I save that for the weekends after the house chores and gardening. Not a bad exsistence. I really love what I do.

Bob, you're a "dirty old man"! My math tells me you aren't quite ready for AARP., and not yet a"Sexy Senior Citizen"!Welcime Aboard! What ever you are doing, just keep it up! It keeps you Young and attractive for the young ladies in your area. Ever tried 5-star Hennesy? I once worked for Him, when the war, WWII started. I was too young to enlist, yet. He had three yaghts, which He Donated tp the USCG, and retired the three crews to AZ, where bought thre Ranch that Jerome Eddy had, The "Diamond-and-a-half". There he had rebuilt, everything for the three crews retirement community. Once hinished, Hennesy threw a party for the workers, and brought in $20,000 worth of the wine he is famous for. The party lasted three days! All you wanted to eat, and/or drink. Coming back from work one evening, we had a deer come thru the windshield, on the "Model A ford". Nobody hurt, and the deer got up and ran away.

Funny you should mention the AARP Dick. No sooner did I turn 50 last year, they started sending me membership packages to the tune of 2 or 3 a week!
I'm not a dirty old man either! I just like the company of a few women when I have my dinner and wine. Of course they might have something to say if I took them all out at the same time
5-Star Hennesy...One of my favorites! Now I am going to have to run out and buy me a bottle. Thanks Dick!!

Bob, I'm 82, and they still send me the paperwork. I just file it in the circular file.
I hope I didn't offend you by calling you a " Dirty old man", that is what we become when we are old enough for AARP, but too young to receive Social Security. When we are eligible, then we become "Sexy Senior Citizens"!
Enjoy the women, and the wine, as you wish! You have earned it.

Salud!
Dick
Bob, I just remembered, did you ever see the 10-star? It was very popular, but much more costly. He quit making that, because it didn't sell as well as the 5-star.
