Not sure but think this is a very very VLDS 1955P 1DO-002. If it is it appears to have had a die change for the reverse since the LDS picture at coppercoins. The date shows heavy abrasion of the second 5.
(the poor man double die I guess you may call it as far as the date goes)
What do you think. Am I on the right track here???????????
If I am right, might want to look a little closer at those poor man 55's.
Steven

It does look like 1955P-1DO-002 even though it is VLDS.

As you said, it does pay off to look very closely at some coins. There are still a lot of wheat cents out there that have not be scrutinized to the full extent and thus, we are still finding very nice variety coins.

Very nice find and congrats

I agree that it does look like DDO #002. I would figure that something that has gone all the way through to VLDS should have a bunch of them out there. Yet, this die remains very elusive. Of course, had you not taken a very close 'extra look' at this coin, chances are this would have been considered another of the many thousands of beat-up over struck 1955 coins. Nice find!

Steven, that just goes to show, that you just never know when you will hit the "jackpot"! They are not all gone. You just proved that! Now we "got to git busy"! My congratulations on a great find!

Agreed, it is 1955P-1DO-002.

I've been looking diligently for one of these for many years and have never found one.
