Ok, will somebody please tell me what happened here? If you look closely, the feet of the "A" can be seen. The scrape (or whatever happened) seems to have just removed the "A" and not touched the rest of the letters. I pulled this from a brand new roll of '06's, so it's not a circulation problem. Thank you.

Is that Zinc showing through? If so it could be coin damage removing the letter. It looks different colored in that area.

No, Coop, there's no zinc showing. It's all copper colored. Actually, in looking at it closer, it almost appears to be a blob of satin finish dropped in that area. So precisely placed between the "T's" though.

However, as I stated, the "A" is obliterated except for the legs of the letter which can be seen as bumps.

Hmmmm...... I thought later it might have been some debris that was struck into the coin while it was struck then fell out later. That would leave the copper color and leave the missing area plated. Gary had a coin that was filled with a clear grease that is occasional. I assume the grease was there from minting, but could have accumulated with circulation. The reason I feel that the clear grease is from minting is that I've seen it on BU rolls before that were not circulated. But to test out this theory, you can take a toothpick and see if it comes off from that area. That would make the discoloration. Why the letter is missing could be filled in with clear grease, nailpolish or a part of debris that came off the coin after minting. There must have been something there as the camera picks up that something is/was in that area. Keep us posted.

I have a hunch that it will remove, (with care), if there is a little lifting in the area of the small part that seems to wrap itself around the first "T". Does it feel like a high spot as you run your finger around the rim, touching the letters?
