Do you see another phantom D mint mark northeast of the primary? Or is it just a coincidence?
Thanks, Rock

Looks interesting, but One thing bothers me. The strongest part of what appears to be a RPM is inside the die flow area above the mintmark and bleow the number. I would say no to it being a RPM as it appeas that wear is what happened in this area/die gouge wearing. The RPMs usually run in a different direction than the die flow. That is what assures us that they ARE a RPMs. When it runs in the direction with the die flow wear could have made that mark. IE: The 1980-D&S Cents were debunked as the earlier examples didn't contain mark. It was determined it was s die scratch/gouge. On this coin also the mark that appeared to be a RPM was in the direction of the die flow. The die flow can make something appear on the later die states, that didn't appear on ealier die states. So the die was not hubbed/punched with this mark. So it is dies age or damage and not a variety that was hubbed this way. Just my observation. Let's see what others think.

Hi Coop,
I was thinking along the same lines. That it might be or probably was a product of the flow lines and wear. That the look of it was just a coincidence. I'll wait to see what others say and if there is a concensus. Maybe someone else will see something different or have another theory. Thanks for the input.

Rock: I think I've seen that die before on a roll of 1960-D Cents. It had me going for a whilealso. But the eye tends to make something out that not there at times. It seems like then I realzed I was looking too hard for something that wasn't there. At first you can't see any RPMs, then you go to the opposite extreme and catch even supposed ones or very minor. Then you adjust back to pick the only ones with good separation and ones that someone else would buy. But I feel our eye is trying to read too much into that coin. I feel it is die flow making it seem like something was there, but it never really was.

Yep. I've done many times before and still tend to do it. Then like you, I back off and wait until I see something true and significant. I was on a "roll" (no pun intended) with a few rpm's this morning and then came across this one so I was thinking rpm. I have been on a draught for awhile so was glad to start finding a couple of small things. Thanks again.

I have tubes of things i get over excited about, my opinion is to save it and look again in awhile with clearer eyes. Ive been searchin for 60d rpm 11 and do think i have it in 3 dif stages but i stare and talk myself out of it. Brian Ribar sent me some good info on finding it and i would bet most of us have it sitting in our minor stuff. But this could be a nice find

that RPM is illusive to most collectors. The picture in the RPM book looks more like a damaged coin. So I don't think they exist. Just a few damaged coins that may have gotten listed?

Eric,
I would be interested in knowing the information. I have a Bank sealed, Lead Sealed Bag of 60 D's. Also a half Bag that I have put aside. I also have 150 Federal Roll's of 60 D. I got bored looking thru them.
