Tropical depressions, tropical storms and of course hurrican

June 1st and the season starts for us down here in the semi-tropics. Gabe, Bob, Smed, Jack and myself always watch this "season' with a bit more interest than any other, for it is during this time that we could get blown away.

Yup, another year and another hurricane season and as I tune into the TV weather, there is a TS (tropical storm) brewing in the Gulf of Mexico and it is anyone guess where it is headed.

Well anyway, for all of you in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina and any other place prone to these high winded storms, I wish you well and good luck.

BJ, I just as well add to that. There is a tropical depression, NW of the Gulf of Tehuantepec, and tropical storm on it's tail!. You may have all the Hurricanes, and in the "Tornado Alley" area, the tornados! Me, give me the earthquakes! They are very dangerous, but actually affect less people, and areas. Keep your sea anchor handy, or maybe build a storm cellar!

BJ Neff.. I went to the bank today and was writting up a deposit slip, and when I went to write the date... it gave the the chills to write 6/1/07. I try to not think about what is about to happen in the future too much, and rather deal with each storm as they come. But this year, I have a bad feeling... Its only day 1 and we have had 2 storms. How will this all look in August and September, peak hurricane season?

Wavystepds...since I attend Florida International University, and the National Hurricane Center is on campus, I have a couple of friends doing internships at the NHC. I just spoke to one of them, and told me that TS Barry is falling apart as we speak. It probably wont be anything when it makes landfall.

Gabe, It is funny that we both had a bad feeling,while writing this date on a check. In your case It is easy to see why, living where you do. In my case, it is because of another reason, entirely. Only yesterday, it was New Years Day, and now it is June! Looks like we could apply the S,L, M, idea here. The separation in the ages, between one, and the other, the Location, East coast, vs the West coast, and obviously, the Markers!: Young man, vs Old man. I suspect you could be mid '30's, and I am 82 Stay safe! Like I told BJ, keep your storm cellar handy. It works equally well in hurricanes, as it does in tornados!

Very funny Dick. Interesting how time flies... and it does seem that it was yesterday that we were welcoming the year 2007.

I don't think many people have storm cellars in Florida. Apparently, one reaches water here after digging only 4 feet into the ground. During storms, we ride them out in the master bed room, and if need be (like during the eyewall of Wilma) we move to the master bathroom.

By the way, Im not in my mid-30's. I turn a wopping 20 years old next month, and to start thinking about when I turn 30 is a bit far too ahead for me. Just thinking what I will be doing in 4 is difficult, especially when I'm trying to get my bachelors, and master's degree...

Gabe, I read your post, later, and tried to edit mine, to reflect the obvious youth, but it wouldn't open. I suspected you might be mid 20', but like I said couldn't edit!
Any way, do what you are appearing to be doing, IE, getting your education! Too many young peiople "do without" and suffer for it in later years. What is your Major(s)? I got almost 2 years of college, before the GI Bill ran out. So much for education. This was in the early '70's.
I spent a little time in Jacksonville, in '43/'44, and many years later, In Boca Chica, for a whiole. I had forgotten thet the "ground water table raises, and lowers with the tides"! LOL!

As for age people.. I just turned 38 on May 26th. I remember when I was 12 I had the idea that 35 was the perfect age and it seemed like I would never get there. My mother in my mind is still 44 (more like 63 now).

Hurricans your get high... tornadoes you get low ... just remember that!!!

Tropical Storm Barry came no where close to us here in this part of Florida. I am still waiting for any type of precipitation. We had one good storm in early May, but have had nothing since. We have accumulated less than 1/2 of the annual rainfall so far. Maybe sometime this week we will get something here.

I wish it would stop raining for more then 1 day here the begining of april we were 3 inchs behind and now we are up almost 10 inch from the norm. Good thing is i dont have to pay to water my lawn

In Phoenix, when we get a rain it is usually 7-10 drops and about 10 hands full of dust. Your car always looks like an abandoned vehicle that you have plenty of space to write on it in the dust. You can always write on your windows : "My other car is a street swipper." Or : "Test Dust" Then you get the usually spraying by a male cat on the windowes. Then when you get in you realize you will need to have it washed, as soon as you can find the automatic window washer button. You go to the car wash and the guy as the obvious question: "Do you need a Wash?" You know when it needs a good washing when you can't see the keys in the ignition through the windows that are too messed up to look through. So you get it cleaned and the car looks the same the next day because of the next 7 sprinkles and a few more hands of dust from another mini dustbowl looming over your car. It doesn't happen too long like that. just during everyday during the summer months.........Till October.....
