A friend and I have gone round and round on wheither this coin has been cleaned or not and we would like your opinion. It is a 1922 P DDR. I tried to get the best pictures I could but I am not very good at it. It was graded as a MS60 DDR By ANACS
Edited: I removed the not so good pictures to save space since there are better ones below.

I wouldn't think it's cleaned just from the picture.
The rev looks a but mushy, maybe they think it was dipped too long.
When ANACs graded it did they net grade it as MS60 cleaned?

Cathy, the coin has been cleaned. The appearance, and the slab label, say so.

Yep,
Whenever they say "details" it means it's a net grade.
That just means it was some grade but cleaned so the end result was a net grade of MS60.
It probably was dipped too much. Looks like it had some small stain or spot that they tried to get off. I don't see in the pics but it could also have hairlines or fine scratches from cleaning. The fact that they still netted it as a 60 makes me think it was just dipped. If they see abrasive marks they probably would net grade it down to the AU grades or worse.

OK.. Im trying to learn how to tell when a coin has been cleaned..... I know the label says so I was just shocked when it came back that way.
Its hard when you know a coins history for the last 61 years. I know the day Grandpa got it, I know who he got it from, I know which boxes its been in, which bank vaults. Hect I even know the guy Alfred who spent it bought 1 lb ground beef, bread, milk, eggs and spinach. I know exactly which two coins he used to pay his grocery bill.
I adjusted my auction to reflect that... I trust you guys more than a grading service anyway.

So if it were not "cleaned" it would have graded higher?

I'm not certain but I think if they use the word "net" it means they reduced the grade for the damage. If they say cleaned MSXX details I think they mean it looks like that grade but it was cleaned. So the answer would be no, it is MS60 based on how it looks and it was cleaned so the net grade might be lower than 60.
Someone might know better?

If the coin was cleaned, it would say so in the holder. Since it does not, we need to assume that the MS-60 grade was derived from hits, nicks and damage on the coin.
BTW- the coin doesnt look cleaned to me from the pictures...

Gabe,
Look above, it does say "MS 60 details cleaned" on the holder.

I would have to see the coin in hand to figure out what they are describing as "cleaned". I don't see it in the images.
Something else...just because a holder says a coin is cleaned doesn't mean it is. That's an opinion, not a given fact.

So... then do your services include looking at something thats not a penny? If I sent it to you and you looked at it and could tell me why it looks cleaned (or not).. like: "See the spot to the left of the nose and the glow above the hair that kind of thing indicates... blah blah blah" You know what I mean? I dont know what your fee would be but I would appreciate it.... Let me know. I doubt I will sell it this time around.

Cathy, are you sure you're "38"?

Maybe it is closer to "39"! LOL,

I had an 1890 Morgan that i bought at a show as ANACS MS60 cleaned and you could still see Flakes of silver from the Original roll on it. So i bought it at a Deal I cracked it open and sent it to NGC and it graded MSPL 64. Not that i think that would comeback 64 because im not a grader but I did know it was higher then a 60 had was obvious not clean or handled much. The people grading can disagree even graders that work for the same service
